what happens that makes the area 11 fishery so weak compared to areas just a few miles north? North of 11 you see creel reports showing 2+ fish per boat. you dont average 1 fish per boat in 11. My brother and I were talking about how many river systems there are between the north and south, and perhaps the fish are just thinning out by then... is that really it?

Moreso for 9 than 10, but kind of playing a lot into both locations is their location in the sound. Area 9 gets a chance at just about every fish in the sound, whereas 11 only gets to fish on the Southbound stocks. All the fish entering the sound come through either Deception or Admiralty.

i was reading today about coho staging in the shilshole or even south of that area, and then heading to more northernish rivers. I always assumed that the fish came from the salt and went south until they hit their river, not that they would go south, then north again.

I dunno, we've limited my boat 7 times in a row near the Shipwreck including today. Had our 4 by 9AM, actually 5 cause we tossed a smaller one back.

When I first moved to Seattle in 1980 I went out with a well known charter guy a few times just to learn the fishery. For Silvers he said they tend to hit the east bank and school up and mill around near the Wreck and Picnic Pt trying to get their bearings and smell the river they are looking for. I've followed his advice ever since. He said it is particularly true for fresh fish after a rain like we've just had. Chinooks like structure and they tend to do the same thing but mostly around Possession.

Sure was true today, there was fish on constantly. Not that many boats today.
