Proposed Bubble Fishery for Area 11!

Post by Bay wolf » Sun Mar 30, 2014 7:54 am

Art Tachell from the Point Defiance Boathouse (253-591-5325 ) has proposed allowing a bubble fishery for Area 11 in May.

This will allow us to take advantage of the large Minter Creek return which are now clipped.

Art and others will be voicing their support for this bubble fishery at the North of Falcon meeting in Lynwood on Tuesday, April 1, as well as the other recommendations that we suggested to improve the fishing in Area's 11 and 13 . If you cannot attend this meeting, please contact Art and let him know that you support this proposal so he can get a head count. Or better yet, send a quick email to Jim Scott, WDFW Fish Manager Asst. Dir. ( James.scott@dfw.wa.gov ) and let him know you support this.
Forgiveness is between them and God. My job is to arrange the meeting!

I need some help. I have fished all my life and have never heard of some of the terms used on this(great) site. What in the world is a Bubble fishery? Also after wondering for about a year now I think that Flossing must mean snagging? And it would sure help some of us from the east side if folks could use the names of the rivers instead of terms like "Big C, SOK, HO, and so on. Thanks for any help you can offer a brother fisherman understand west side jargon.

A "bubble fishery" is the term for a special open area, generally saltwater, which allow anglers a spot to fish in an otherwise closed fishery. These bubble fisheries are set up to target specific, healthy runs for sport anglers to harvest.
"Flossing" is the use of long leaders, generally over 4-5 feet in conjunction with drift fishing for steelhead, although salmon would also be a target. The concept is that the leader drags along an open mouth of a fish and the hook eventually finds it's way to the mouth and hooks the fish. Considered to be snagging because the fish did not willingly bite the lure, but wss snagged by it.

I've come to the conclusion that its worth it to drive another 2-3 hrs to fish anywhere outside of 11 and 13... so anything that improves 11/13 would sure be nice because the fishery is horrible.
