Hey guys, I wanted firs off say hi. I'm pretty new to Washington still at just over a year. I moved from the east coast and it certainly is different over here. I have surf tackle that I used over in Georgia off the beaches and was wondering if I could put it to use here. Also what my best chances are in my situation. I am in the Coast Guard so I have a unique priveledge of getting to fish of the very end of the Ediz Hook. The water drops off pretty deep pretty quick off the tip. I am on duty every 4 days so I might as well give it a shot out there. I have two 10 ft poles with spinner reels that were set up for pretty big fish (sharks). I think they have just 25 lbs test or 30 on them. I also have a couple medium action 7 ft rods with I think 15 lbs test. And I just acquired a light action with small spinner using only 6 lbs test. Everything else is just boat rods and stuff I can't cast at all with.
My idea was using the 10ft with some bombers or something similar to maybe try to hit the salmon on the deeper drop offs? I should be able to hurl some weight out to about 75 yards or so. And then possibly using the smaller rods with some simple two hook bottom weights with some clam necks or shrimp or something trying to get some surf perch? Maybe a cabezone? I don't REALLY know what species I could encounter out there. That's mainly what I'm asking I guess. Any chance for some pacific cod? Or any sharks out there? Thanks guys. I really appreciate any help!

I've caught salmon trolling along the hook using mostly cutplug herring. you may hook into some chinook. their are probably perch, cabezon, greenling, flounder, rockfish and definitely dogfish around.

Re: First Post. Beach Fishing Ediz Hook
I've seen guys fishing off the end of Ediz Hook and doing quite well. But that was some years ago and the Chinooks were very active, chasing bait schools in close, and that doesn't happen all that often. The larger rods will work, maybe jig Pt. Wilson Darts or something similar. Best bet is just go out there when other guys are fishing it and do what they are doing. No sharks there, just Dogfish. Back in the 80's there was a rundown marina just outside the gate that rented boats but it is long gone.
