Post by Eugene » Sun Jun 14, 2015 5:55 pm

Hi Guys and Gals! Please help with identification of this one in the right bottom corner. I kept only 1 because I guess it is a bottom fish, but I released others because I am not sure. Thank you in advance!

Thank you! Yes, looks like it is. By size it was around 10-12 inches.

It is a Staghorn and a mighty big one at that LOL. When we were kids we called em bullheads because we got stabbed by those darn gill plate spikes of theirs LOL

Is this even true or are you saying that just because?

I have personally never taken one home to eat, but I imagine they would have a fine white flaky meat.

The Cabezon is the largest member of the family cottidae (sculpin), and those things are friggen delicious, and that's first hand. [thumbup]

I probably would have had that officially weighed. Looks like it could have been a state record!

cabbies and stags have two totally different diets but buy all means man if you want to find a whole new way to show case your new culinary creation on a stag be my guest ... i was just saying its not table fare due to the fact that its head and guts once you get down to it same reason why people tend not to keep china rock fish on charters and keep the blacks and blues ..
