Deception Pass

Post by DannyL » Mon Aug 17, 2015 9:34 am

I know Pinks are running pretty good right now through DP but I am wondering if anyone has seen or caught any Coho yet? Im headed up with my girlfriend tonight for two days and shes never caught a salmon in her life. Good chance of 4 limits in two days? We are also camping at the state park.

Saturday 29 boats with 67 Anglers had 4 kings 6 Coho and 90 pinks
Sunday 36 boats with 84 Anglers had 10 kings 2 Coho and 101 pinks

Not everyone here fished the pass though since you can't retain Kings in the actual pass. I haven't fished the pass this year yet but plan on hitting it tomorrow evening after work in the boat. 4 limits in two days might be tough at this point. I fished all day yesterday with a friend at Fort Casey south of Deception and came up with three pinks. Lost two others. A friend of mine limited on Saturday but for me, anything more than a couple of pinks has been hard to come by all season.

Weird since BP is killing it you would think there would be more fish at Deception by now.

I hear the Skagit is producing and all those fish went through the Pass. I can't imagine they go all the way around Whidbey and back up but maybe they do? I don't know man, it's been a strange year for for me. We also ran down just north of BP and to Lagoon Point. Picked up a pink at Lagoon and saw a school jumping between lagoon and bush but no couldn't get them to bite. I have heard Bush is hot but if they are there, they are at casey and lagoon too. One guy we were trolling next to at Lagoon point said the night before he had 3 silvers in the boat. I just haven't had that kind of luck this year.

There are so many fish at Deception and Skagit in Sedro Woolley.

I shore fished from North Beach a week ago for 3 straight days. Limits on pinks are definitely possible if you are willing to put in the time. 2 of the 3 days I had plenty of hook ups to get a limit, but never did. 3 was the best total for a day. I saw no Coho caught from the bank nor from anyone out in front of me in a boat. I put in 4 hours each of the 3 days.

I am pretty sure the fish at BP are headed for the Snohomish, the fish at Deception are headed for the Skagit. Deception always seems to be at least 2-3 weeks behind south Whidbey Island in regards to fish showing up.
