Hood canal in a 12ft boat
Is it doable? Have a 12 foot boat with downrigger and wanted to see if you guys think its doable. Fished mouth of the nisqually this am with no luck so looking at the creel report I thought I would head up there early and try for pinks. Any advice?

I met my buddy several years ago at Potlatch and thought he was crazy going out in his 10ft livingston. There were 3 of us in his boat, crowded yes, but the fishing/catching was well worth it. Are you going solo?

Yeah I am flying solo. Don't have a ton of gear but this is my week off so I am going to hit it hard tomorrow. Might have a seat if someone has their own gear, gas is not a problem in my boat.

I don't know what thread the fishing buddy list is on, but I am sure someone would be more than happy to go fishing with you. Let me know how you do, they should be pretty think soon, if not already.

Definetely was doable for the first two hours. Trolled a humpy rig with no success. Was almost to hoodsport when I had a popoff, as i pulled up the rigger the damn tension knob came off. Ended the day for the downrigger. Tried jigging with no luck. Everyone else in bigger boats was heading farther north. Did talk to two guys that had about a 18-20 king. Nice fish.

nchap, nice job. Sorry about your DR. I've run my little 12' out of Mukilteo when the weather and waves are relatively calm. I don't go far from shore, but it doesn't take much for the pinks and to drop a couple pots. Have fun and be safe out there. Better luck next time.
RE:Hood canal in a 12ft boat
My ex and I used to take my 12ft out of potlatch crabbing all the time. If the wind was up and the water was rough it was somewhat dicey. My 15 hp motor was really straining to get us back to shore, but it is definitly doable. Good luck.
