You can tie up some killer bass poppers also. They are pretty easy to do. If you don't have a vise, you can pick up an inexpensive one for about $15-30.

RE:Jigs Swap?
You may be able to buy the hook with the popper body already attached. Some of the smaller hooks are made that way.
When I made mine, I used a piece of 3/4 balsa dowel. You can shape the body pretty easy with balsa since it is a soft wood. Cut a notch in the bottom of the body and slide the hook down into the body. Fill the notch with exposy. Paint the body and then tie on the hackle or bucktail.
I got a 3# largemouth on a fly rod with one that I made up. That was a thrill because I was just experimenting with making poppers that I could fly cast with.

RE:Jigs Swap?
I have some antique poppers that are pretty cool. I had a great day at Waits lake nailing bass on them. no 3 pounders though. Poppers are fun and great for fishing in lilly pads. Never have tied them though.
RE:Jigs Swap?
i'm interested in doing a jig swap. i've been tieing 1/64-1/100 for years for crappie and bluegill. i'm currently involved in remodeling a house and would have a hard time putting in the time. but if we have enough people i 'm all in. <')//<

i know this is a little off topic but how do you fish jigs (1/64-1/100) that are so small?
Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.

I use them under a slip float most of the time or just add a weight and fish them verticale right under the boat.

thats what ultralite fishing is all about 2-4lb line and longer ultralite poles help to make longer casts and fight larger fish with lite lines mainly used for panfish (trout, bluegill, crappie, etc.) some use lines less than 2lbs and even smaller hook sizes. <')//<
RE:Jigs Swap?
i normally use ultra lite gear just haven't use tackle that small. when u fish'em under a bobber do you pop it or let the water give the jig action

RE:Jigs Swap?
when i fish small jigs under floats i cast, let the jig fall all the way until the line hits its end then i wait about 10 sec. then i twitch it back about 2 feet, let it sit and repeat. it works well for crappie, perch, and bluegill. i have also had success with this method while fishing for trout. it just depends on how the fish are biting.

RE:Jigs Swap?
yea, another thing is that you really need to now how deep the water is were you are fishing because if you only have the jig set under the bobber about 3 feet but you are fishing in a 10ft deep hole you will not catch much. i usually try and keep the jig midway in the water column. this way you can pull fish from the top and make fish come up to get your offering. if the water is any deeper than 8ft you might want to use a slip bobber so casting wont be such a hassle

RE:Jigs Swap?
lets get back to the jig swap! any others interested in tieing something up? <')//<
RE:Jigs Swap?
This sounds like something I would be very interested in doing. What a thrill it would be to catch fish on a lure you made yourself! Is this a very expensive thing...making your own jigs? Do you have to have a vice? Do you use patterns or just make it up as you go?
It would be cool to participate with some of you in this...

it can get expensive. yeah you do need a vice bps has a great deal on a descent kit that comes with pretty much everything you need. i would recomend getting the kit plus extra fur/ feathers. also check out sportsmans warehouse they have a great selection for people who like to tie there own gear. yu can make it up if you like but i lik to see other peoples examples then try your own. gives you a good idea on how to tie some jigs. i also sent you a pm with good info for tying.
