First Annual Lake Stevens Kokanee DERBY!!!!

Post by Matt » Fri Apr 02, 2010 3:05 pm

Overheard a promoter seaking sponsorship for this at John's when I was in there the other day. Justin at Holiday also mentioned overhearing something about it when I went in for a license yesterday; now I found THIS online :) sounds very promising:

Taken from Ted's Sports Center Blog at:
http://tedssportscenter.blogspot.com/

Stevens is just over 1000 acres. 35 boat limit for a contest.

$20 ea x 2 per boat x 35 boat limit = $1400

I see $3075 in cash listed.

!
Aside from ticket sales there are other sources of revenue for prize money including this list of sponsors, public donation, etc.

Rich:

We should have derby tickets by the end of the week or the first of next. The WDFW does know of the event though they may not have it posted as of yet. If you check our reports page I will update things as we get more together on it.

Hope that helps you out at the present time. Feel free to give me a call if you have any questions.

Lake Steven's Kokanee Derby - May 22

The derby is coming together quite nicely, we are receiving nothing but positive input from virtually everyone we have spoke with. Mark Spada the president of the Snohomish Sportsmans Club is doing a "Fantastic" job getting things put together. We should have flyer's, finalized information and tickets perhaps by the end of the week or the first of next.

This should be an outstanding event!

I was part of a Kokanee Derby some years ago on Lk Stevens. This is when I was weighing in at 315 lbs.I went with my fishing partner who was a solid 170 lbs.We ventured out in my 8' Livingston with my 1986 Honda 7.5 hp,a full icechest and gear .We were about 1-2" from the waterlevel. We started out just fine. Some guy came past us slowly and his wake caught my bow and like a submarine it was DIVE DIVE..The motor got submerged which killed it.Im in the halfway part of the lake rowing back submerged but still somewhat afloat. This was in 2006. By2007 I had bought a new 16' Smokercraft.I still have the Livingston. We didnt catch any Kokes but It was funny and we had a fairly fun day. The key to Koke fishing is ......... Not telling...Muahaha.Unless.........

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Wow that sounds like a blast. I love fishin' for kokes! I'll probably be up fishin' the alpine lakes that weekend but I'll pass the word around and see if anyone else is interested. Hope they have a good turnout. Good luck out there!
When times get tough, just keep on fishin'!!!

Prize list is officially correct! Tickets went on sale today, picked up 2 for my partner and I from John's. Here is the official advertisement: http://www.johnssportinggoods.com/2010% ... 0Derby.pdf

Tons of local sponsors shelled out good money to endorse this event, I am super stoked AND proud to say that I patronize most all of the sponsor establishments frequently.

We have our tickets and a copy of the introduction flyer but seem to be having trouble locating the kokanee derby rules. Does anybody know of a link for Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby rules? We are looking for the start time, weigh-in location and any other special rules. Also, any idea how many tickets were sold? I think that our ticket numbers are in the mid two hundreds. It may be a crowded day on the water. I hope that they recharge the porta-potties at the WDFW access. They were pretty nasty two weeks ago.

The derby is limited to 35 boats. On 1000+acres that shouldnt be bad.. of course most of us will be trolling the middle I'm betting. Hopefully its not recreational weather and the anglers get the run of the lake.

10 day forcast seems to indicate it will/should be raining that weekend.

We had a good time Saturday. No luck on the Kokes. The clouds broke and it warmed up nicely. Not to crowded, only 1 near mishap from a guy who got caught up watching some one elses action. The MinnKota decided to have issues so we headed in about 1:30.
