Yeah, I'll take the blame for this one.....I just couldn't keep my mouth shut so to speak. #-o
I should have just stopped at pointing out the irony of who the sponsor was, but I had to go and throw in my POV too. Hope it doesn't lead to anything too ugly! :rambo: [biggrin]
Yeah and I added to it. I`m quick to jump when someone mentions the politicians. Not that I like it. I just want to know everyone elses opinions. I bet this is a dumb question but has anyone thought about a politics thread. It would save from politics getting put in the topics. I`m a member of a couple other bass sites and they have a politics section. It works great keeps the politics in that section and the fishing topics going. I know this is a fishing site but politics are going to be brought up anyway it`s just a way to keep them seperate. It`s just a fact of life. Just a thought I`m done rambling.:-#

Not a dumb question at all. In fact a few years back, there was a thread like that. I think that it was left to die. At first, it started off fairly civil, but as time went on, it got more and more abusive and vile. For the administrators and the mods, it was an area we really didn't want to go into. Everyone has an opinion, and each feel they are right. There is very little compromise. And today, politics seems to be an ongoing campaign, all day and every day starting the day after an election. The major news media want to keep it on the front page and lead stories in their broadcasts. Sadly, I feel that this is dividing our nation like it has never been divided before, except for the civil war.
As moderators, we have to walk a very narrow fence. We all have our beliefs, but have to be fair in our actions and comments. That is difficult to do sometimes. If a poster attacks another for his political standings and we intervene, we then are often called Nazis, Pinkos, Commies, Tea Baggers, Right Wing wackos or whatever.
The majority of the members posting on the forum realize this and really want to get along. Most of the regulars on the forum will respect that. However, you then have the new "drop-ins" that start a fray. That is when it gets vile and the PM's are fired off to the Administrators and the Mods asking us to intervene. It is then we have to lock down the thread. We then are faced with the accusation of taking away someones "Freedom of Speech" rights and it starts all over again.#-o

Now I am rambling on. So back to wasting tax payers money [cool]

I can imagine it could get out of control. Better left the way it is. Everything is going just fine the way it is.

I ve been on alot of fishing sites with a political forum in it. They turn nasty quicker then the Skok does.I wasnt trying to stir up arguments with this thread.Political forums start fights and wars. I really rather not see a forum like this. I like it here cuz its a fishing site.Fishing hunting are what this place is all about.

I believe you weren't trying to start anything and the discussion was good imo. I love political forums and flame boards but they look like a bad train wreck most of the time. No need to let ugliness bleed to the other boards.

The comment section on the Seattle Times articles is a fun place to "express" yourself.:)

I don't think a political forum would be a good idea. Too great of a chance that animocities from those discussions bleeding over to other threads and calm discussions and creating enemies.

'Teabagger' I think refers to the "Boston Tea Party" and the reason why it happened, as in the British's heavy handedness over the colonies.

Some people can't handle the rules, and so they think any enforcment of said rules is too strict. So they want to start another 'teaparty'.

You know what? I love this country. Where else can you complain about the Govt with out having your hands cut off or your head lobbed off.Sent to a gulag or forced labor camp for stating your opinion. This is what I really LOVE about AMERICA.We have such wonderful freedoms that I feel we sometimes take for granted. We sometimes vent here on forums and threads. But all in all we'll share our gear and knowledge with people who enjoy the same quality way of life as the rest of us. If I tend to get a lil out of line ,I'm sorry about it. Fishing to me is a passion like most of you. Sometimes its good to let off some steam. If I offend any one person I do apologize for that.
