Be careful out there folks, this one hits close to home!

CAMANO HEAD, Wash. - Authorities say a man was killed and four people were rescued from the Puget Sound near Camano Head after a small boat overturned on Saturday morning.

A distress call went out at about 7:30 a.m.

A family member says all five were from one family.

"They were out shrimping, there was a lot of other boats in the vicinity," said Rob Johnson, Deputy Chief, Snohomish Fire District

Four adults were rescued by Good Samaritans, who began treatment for hypothermia. One man was transported to Tulalip Marina, where local emergency medical teams pronounced him dead, the Coast Guard said.

A Coast Guard rescue swimmer rescued a 13-year-old boy from under the boat. The boy was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

"They were not wearing life jackets," said Johnson.

Witnesses say the boat was thrown off by waves from other vessels nearby.

Yah an 18 foot boat with 5 people and gear in a 1-3 ft chop does not sound like a wise choice.

Although I feel deeply sorry for the families that are suffering through this tragedy, it could have been easily avoided by using some common sense and boating safety. Sickbayer is right.

It's just a shame that no matter how many times people are told, it takes something tragic like this to remind them to wear it.

Your right Racer lot`s of people think that will never happen to me. I have a brother in law that takes a 10ft boat in the sound and thinks it`s fun. I tell him he`s next. When I see waves and wind I`m gone. Sad story anyway.

I just know that Im not a strong swimmer. I wear my PFD always. Its not uncomfortable and dosent get in my way.The article said there were PFDs on board but only the kid had one on. It is a shame when people pass on for not doing something as simple as a Life Jacket....this is why its called a LIFE!!!!!Jacket.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.
