First time steelhead fishing

Post by daniesea » Thu Apr 08, 2010 7:52 am

Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I've been able to go fish. I've never fished for steelhead before and would liked to give it a try. Can anyone tell me where to go? And is the setup the same as the drifting corky rig? I've read the reports that the cowlitz and blue creek is doing very well. I'm in the Seattle area, is there anyone going this weekend? Maybe this newbie can tag along? Please let know thank you all!

Yea, works been busy for me and the weather is not always good. I will try to find a place on the cowlitz sat morning. If not the drive should be nice, but sure hope I can get the line wet! :)

Get there before 4am glowball toss light weight longer leaders right now. Water is low and clear visibility is around 6ft or more. Use small corkies. I use 2 #14 corkies. No yarn right now. Just the corkies will do.
More fish please!

What's a glow ball? Is there a area I should be at? I've never been to the cow before. I'd appricate it if anyone can tell me what exit to take from I-5? Flinginpooh thank u very much for the tips and water conditions! I really do appricate your help! Hope you limit out this time out, but your last report fishing with your son was awsome, I remember back in the days when my old man taught me how to fish brings back great memories! Thank you again!!

It's the first thing that pops up when you google "cowlitz river fishing" and Jens sent it to me once, confirming accuracy.

Hey guys thanks for the tips and support! I did make it out there but not sure if it's the right spot. I didn't catch anything, but not going to give up, thinking about heading out on a weekday. Let me know if anyone is heading out after Monday maybe we can meet up.

Thanks again everyone! :)

If you was fishing yesturday it was a lil on the dead side. I fished for 12 hours straight only taking a 30-40 min snooze around 3am. I went 0 for 3 and caught 1 sucker fish. The day before, friday, on the other hand was hot. Its just that way sometimes. I seen a ton of fish they just wouldnt bite. I had only seen 5 fish landed the whole time I was there.
More fish please!
