The 4 of us will be there. Hopefully they'll fill the lake soon.

Mike, Where in the park is it going to be set up?

we'll get there as soon as the park opens and find a place to set up. My guess would be somewhere just past the bathhouse. The parking lot is directly in front of the long jetty next to the boat launch. I'll post a map later.

What's the launch fee? I heard $10 to launch and $10 more to pick up the boat.

(Dike 5) there is a concrete wall running the length of the dike. If you have mooring fenders you should be ok but there is no place to "beach it" close by. This location will get more exposure for signage.

Not as close to the launch, but much roomier, Dike 7 has ample shade, parking close by, plenty of space to beach multiple boats.

$0.02

Fees:

$7.00 - Vehicles and motorcycles

$3.50 - Seniors*/Persons with disabilities

Disabled American Veterans are exempt with a valid Washington State Parks Veterans Pass.

$15.00 - if you have a boat/trailer

I second the dike 7 talk. Plenty of shore line, picnic tables, and a Port-a-Potty, I think. Tapps should be a hot mess at that time of the year if the weather is good. Hope everyone has a calm spot on the water to fish...

sounds like fun. I can only do this one "official" event though. Just not enough time to devote to organizing another event.

Its a good size park. with 3 distinctive areas.
Dike 5, Dike 6 and Dike 7

Dike 5 is located between the launch and the swim area. Minimal shade, close to the cocession stand. Dike 6 runs along the other side of the swim area and has more shade and the parking is closers to it than 5. Dike 7 is in the back and has the most room, tons of shade plus area to beach boats. the water between 6 and 7 is a deap pool thats good for jiggin and no boats can cut thru there so its a good place to toons to start out.

If the weather is avearge, not to many rec users but if the weather is kickin, the lake will have tons of rec users.

The only con is the stumps and unexpected shallow areas. Use caution and you good.

Park opens at 7:30am

Brink your trunks, The Tiger Musky wont bother you. Unless your toes look like Pikeminnows...#-o

Only prob I have with Tapps that time of year is, it WILL be very busy. No fun busy. Tapps is like a big bath tub. No beach fronts to take the brunt of a waves force. So they just bounce off all the breakwalls and rocks and create a windy Puget Sound scenerio. Added with a bunch of idiots out cruising there daddies speedboats and it can get crazy. (I wouldn't float tube it for any amount of money) But hey, there will be plenty of eye candy.
If I have any vote or say, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to do a smaller lake like a Pine, Beaver or even American to facilitate the motorists. Don't get me wrong, Tapps is cool and all, but mid-July might be too crazy. IMHO

But I'll be there no matter where it is. To much fun to miss. And something interesting always takes place.

Yeah...this will be an event that I will choose NOT to fish...I've been at Tapps twice and that was two more than enough for me personally. I do not enjoy the launch scene nor the majority of the boating activities nor the lack of general respect. This by no means is a slam on the selection of the event...just not my cup of tea. But I will be there to offer my support for any chores needed...and of course the fellowship. [sad]

I haven't been on Taps for about 15-18 years for those same reasons. Even the Police boat doesn't care if another boat cuts you off/fails to yield the right of way 50 yards in front of the Police boat.

#1) Park should be big enough if its set up early , but parking can be limited and fill up fast. pleanty of launches , but again show up early , parking lot holds about 80 vehicles with trailers (just a guess on the number of trailers ) . Park opens at 7:30 am and most of the skiers will not be up that early.
#2) Man made resivor , lots and lots of areas covered with rocky/gravely hard bottoms . few weeds.
#3) I cant speek for anyone but myself on this one , but I'm hella excited and will be there for sure. I just hope I'm fully recoverd from surgery by then =/ . Lake Tapps = my home lake =) .

I cant stress enough how fast the parking does fill on hot days. Get there early to get a spot. Most of the skiers and swimmers and stuff dont show up till mid morning. So get there early and claim your spot. If you show up after 12 there is a good chance that the parking lot will be full. Bring everything you need for the day as you will not be able to leave the park and then return. If you have a boat you can visit the Texaco for food and drinks. Hope the info helps some. Dont get discouraged the park is large and should accomidate.
