chowder

Post by saltyseadog » Sun Mar 14, 2010 4:55 pm

well i made a batch of clam chowder tonight and i thought i would share it with my (fishing friends lol) as my fiance calls you guys. rac stay away from this stuff!

For a big batch,

1 large onion
5 celery stalks
6 carrots, all diced
pound of bacon
12 onces cream cheeze
3 pounds of clams from the can at costco
cream and half and half or milk
spuds
alittle bit of flour
salt pepper
what ever dried herbs you have on hand
bay leaf

cook down the bacon till crispy, take out of pan and set to the side. start to cook up the veggies in the bacon fat. adding herbs. when tender add some flour cook for a few more mins. so the flour is not raw. put in some clam juice from the can and reduce. do all this while your spuds are boiling. when spuds are done drain and give them a few mashes. put every thing in a huge pot and simmer.

Agreed, Clam Chowder is one of the best pick me ups after a cold day of fishing.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM...That sounds very very yummy. Howd you know I went to Taylor Seafoods and picked up fresh clams? My clams didnt make them past steaming.I steamed them and thought to myself "I'll make chowder out of the rest."Alas we ate them all SLUUUU RRR PPP.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

Now you are making me hungry. The fresh ingredients definitely beat the canned soup..

sounds GOOOODD!!!! When we lived on whidbey Island we had to fight off the Racoons one night to be able to keep enough for chowder, i believe there was a family of 7. we had a good laugh watching them though.
