RE:agree or disagree with flossing
if your drift fishing a hole, normal amount of leader and dont purposely floss the fish and the hook is in a "legal" place then its fine. But intentional flossing is pretty much snagging in my mind
My rod and reel, they comfort me.

Oh, THAT kind of flossing - fishing. NO! It should be illegal and people flogged for doing it.

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
okay I am only doing this to get this thread moving.curado wrote:superrrr long leaders beyond 4 feet
So how does a leader beyond 4 feet make it flossing? What makes that longer leader more capable to "floss" a fish?
agian only asking these questions so others will understand. Flossing is taken out of contex by way to many people.

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
5 to 6ft of leader floats higher in the water colum and goes through a fishes mout and normally hooks a fish in the corner or the mouth and u are retriving the yarn or corkie and yarn. flossing is used alot in alaska for sockeye

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
So say i am usinga 3 foot leader with less weight shouldn't I be able to get into the same water colum that a longer leader would? So in sense, my corkie and yarn would be doing the same thing?
RE:agree or disagree with flossing
not really. the shorter leader and weight makes it less likely to hook into the fish. due to there is less friction on the line. and because the weight will make your gear move faster through the water with current

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
Right but your corkie and yarn still have the chance of acking the same way and "flossing" the fish.
anyways get info and keep it coming. I am done for now...I know others will jump in on this soon.

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
Yep sure did. I have talked to people who study this crap......but to be honest no matter what your leader lenght is you have a chance of "flossing" the fish. It is jsut increased more and more the longer your leader gets.curado wrote:so did wat i say make sence scott
just my .02
I see no reason to get worked up over something that is legal, if anyone wants to start a group together and maybe present info to fish and wild life then that is your best bet. Anything else is jsut a waste of your time and breath. Stop bitching as a group and come together and come up with a solution to fix it.

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
Heres a little bit of contraversy for y'all.I dont know if this is flossing really. Sometimes when the rivers are low I'll use just a couple Patsukes eggs on a hook and cast it out with a loooonnnggg leader. Im not trying to spook the fish or snag it .I'm just presenting my eggs way away from the shiney swivel, and weight.I never call it flossing though . Its just a different presentation.During winter months when flows are stronger I use an 18"leader.When I'm plunking I use a 12" leader,if that. You call it flossing with a long leader I call it presentation.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
I have yet to fish a full year on the rivers. So my .02 is this: I think flossing is a form of snagging. I was taught that when you felt ANY sort of pause in your drift to set the hook. WHAT?!! It did take me awhile to kind of understand between a rock or whatever to really know if it was a fish or not. I still don't know. It took me several months to really get dialed in with this method and I have "caught" a lot of fish this way. So until they make "flossing" illegal then people will keep fishing/snagging. OR underwater footage of a Salmon run with guys/gals tossing long leaders and small corky's or long leaders and just yarn or long leaders and a bead. If there is undeniable video evidence of a fish taking one of these offerings voluntarily, then this will shed some light on this topic.

RE:agree or disagree with flossing
I don't know about that. I seen several fly fisherman at Kennedy Creek fishing for Chums using lightly weighted streamers and super long leaders. Sounds like a floss rig to me.curado wrote:No they use a different presentation.cogitator wrote:Doesn't this definition makes all fly fishermen flossers?#-ocurado wrote:superrrr long leaders beyond 4 feet
