Might of been me. My guess is they are not fishing rivers with buzz bombs, it is also my guess that they are not trying to fish under your boat. It is more likely they were trying to hit your boat because of your "I will blow through any hole I want" attitude. There are so many more places that guys with boats can fish, why ruin the very few areas bankies have access to? I have been with guys that run sleds and they have always slowed down and drifted through holes where there is a concentration of bankies.
I'm with the sick one! It doesn't matter if you go slow or you go fast, rude bankies and in some cases guides feel the need to cast stuff at you so I just don't care anymore. The name of the thread is combat fishing and that's what it is. If you chuck stuff at me, chances are I'll defend myself with the boat. Call the sheriff's office and see if they think it's all right to cast your gear at another person. My guess is they'll have a nice word for, assault. As for the guy standing in the middle of the river where sleds are known to run, it’s the same thing as standing in the middle of the street. If it comes down to my boat or your lure and a maybe fish, guess what? You lose. Sorry guys, it’s a harsh reality.

I slightly agree with this but just because someone in standing in a hole that you want to plow through doesn't mean you should put his life in danger. Nor should anyone be tossing gear of any sort at peoples boats.

we all need to share the river

Ok sat on hold for a bit cause of this damn calling out fish rumor. There is no law against it. They said there has not been any tickets for it issued. That there sees to be a rumor going around about it but its not true. So that info is straight from the horses mouth in OLYMPIA, not Joe Blow river fisher that heard of a guy that got a ticket. Also to those that heard you cant use just yarn on the river due to the selective gear rules. Horse crap as well. You can use just yarn. I have been hearing alot of crap this year when it comes to river fishing. Record numbers of fish bringing out record jack asses obviously.
More fish please!

Rjn, if you was to hook into a 20lb + fish and then had to fight the current on top of it youd see what the hype is about. Sure its fun to run around on the lakes and fish for bass and stuff. But getting in the river and tossin out your line and setting into a big fish and a 10 min fight. It will hook ya and make ya get out and try for more. Then add in the chance of catching a steelie. These fish, unless your Jens, are some of the hardest to catch. But some of the best pound for pound fighting fish out there. Maybe youll never try it but if you do and you catch one youll be hooked.
More fish please!

I`ve fished the sound which I`m sure is nothing like the rivers.I`m sure I would be hooked for life but I`d end up in jail first. I don`t know how you guy`s keep your cool. Pisses me off when someone fishes to close to me on the lakes.

Respect others they will respect u. If your new to combat fishing id say your better off at the top or bottom of the line. Also give the people above u a chance to start reeling in befor casting over everyone.

Sounds to me that there are some who are more skilled than others when it comes to driving their sleds. I've been on plenty of boats that were more concerned with being courteous and safe for everyone on the river not just themselves and their need to prove how cool they and their boat are. One time I was fishing a spot where a sled was anchored just upriver from me which was fine by me, but when they decided to leave they first let themselves drift down river from me as well as get closer to the bank. Not knowing what they were doing or what they were planning on doing, once they were far enough below me I made another cast, just as my drift was going below me the boat decided that they would fire up the engine and blow the hole that I was fishing. They went right over my line and it sucked up into the pump and spooled off all of my line as they were laughing their way up the river. Perhaps its guys that dont know how to be considerate and share the river and lack the skill to handle their sleds without blowing everyone else off the river that cause this type of disagreement. I wouldn't cast a buzz bomb at the boat that was anchored just upriver from me just because he was there. Why do sleders feel the need to blow the bankies off the river just because they are there?

One of the biggest misconception out there is that "steelhead are smart and so they are hard to catch."

Truth of the matter is that steelies are real easy to catch, if you can get your lure in front of them. They will pretty much bite anything (i've caught them using egg snot left over on my hook after the eggs have milked out; pieces of colored sponges, and <gasp> plain yarn and corky).

The problem is that there are few of them in the river and/or people are casting into the part of the river where they are not holding. Hence, the perception that "these fish are smart and not biting", when in fact they are not there.

Circling now back to "combat fishing"-- try fishing the spots of the river away from the combat line--you'll be pleasantly surprised at all the fish holding at those "unlikely" spots after they've scurried away from the combat zone. THose are usually the spots where you'll find me (hence, my advise still remains "don't fish combat areas")

(I admit that I partake in a few combat spots. 1 trip a year to bonneville for shad. And 1-2 trips to the Spokane Street bridge when pinks are in. That's about all that I can take in a season. Most other times, I am fishing away from the crowds, having a good time, and occasionally catching fish. If I wanted to bring home fish that badly, I would just go to Safeway).

That being said, I've never been to the Skoke. Anyone want to take me? I'll split gas.

I will say that it took much me longer to catch a Steelhead than I thought, but even so, I don't think they are easy to catch.

Maybe you can share the rivers and spots you fish for Steelhead? I'd like to compare notes.

I'll write up a PM later and send to you Jens.

We PM'ed each other last year about saltwater perch fishing south of Tacoma. I gotta do that--I find that type of fishing more very relaxing (and no combat!!) :-)

BTW Is this you in this clip (smallhookbigfish)? pY_Ve-we_PQ
