Wasting Tax Dollars?
In reading threads in the Off-Topic board seems like this could be a fun subject. I'll start with some of my pet peeves in how our state county and city wastes money.
My new first subject are these ridiculous signs on the freeway heading into Seattle for 28 plus million. The next total waste is the light rail that I never see more then 10 people riding on.That had to be over 100 million. It goes through neighborhoods That even I lock my doors in.Thirdly for me is this stupid tunnel where hiway 99 is along the waterfront. The last is all these stupid bike lanes for bicycilist.Lets go from here I guess.

Take a drive, go past a few bus stops, look for this pole, with a plastic transmitter on the top of it. What exactly are those and WHY do we have them?!!! I've been told you push a button and it tells the bus driver you're at the bus stop. WOW THAT'S JUST GREAT, BECAUSE THE BUS WASN'T GOING TO FOLLOW THE BUS ROUTE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
There are little things like this EVERYWHERE.

what signs?
the tunnel is GREAT!
as long as they keep that stupid train away from where I live and I don't have to pay for the dumb thing.
the bike lanes are ok, as long as they are in the tunnel and away from the cars, or they can use the bikes for fill under the tunnel.

Yea, the new signs are GREAT! They tell you how fast to go.. just like the static signs.
The cool feature of the new signs is... when traffic is backed up and everyone is going 15 mph... the signs will change from 60... to 45.

This topic is gonna go for months because 3/4 of the crap the state does is a waste. The bike lanes are a joke because the inconsiderate bikers won`t and don`t use them anyway. I could go on and on but I`ll let the guy`s that have lived here all there life comment. You guy`s already know how I feel about the state.

I dont need a sign to tell me I'm doing 15mph. Thats why my truck has a speedometer. When you see standstill traffic its a good bet you aint gonna be going 55 mph.I dont need to spend 28 mill to telll me that.

State run liquor stores are just a waste of time, money and space. When the day comes that private stores can sell liquor, the State will realize the benefits of collect this revenue without having to spend anything.
Committees created to draft and or evaluate proposals and plans for just about everything. These committees seem to take forever to make the most basic decisions and somehow manage to blow through hundreds of millions of dollars.
I feel that we can also point out positive and unexpected things that have been done with our taxes. As much as I disliked Norm Rice's politics, I must give the man credit for seeing through the land deals that became Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.

I think one of you guy`s should send a letter to the state represenitives and tell them to join walakes. They could solve alot of there troubles right here. I`m being serious about that to. There are alot of real smart fella`s on this site.
RE:Wasting Tax Dollars?
A lot of good points here.
What irks me are the concrete "Noise Abatement Walls" up and down I-5 and 405.
Last time I checked, concrete was $60 a yard, not to mention the cost of transporting
and putting them up.
If you bought a house next to the freeway or busy street- you made that choice.
And you probably got a good deal on it.
It's not up to taxpayers to make your neighborhood a more comfortable place.

Wheel chair approaches on every corner in town, even in the residential areas. Honestly, how many people do you see each day while you are driving around town using a wheel chair. They may be fine on the west side, but over here they are very treacherous in the winter time with a layer of frost or freezing rain on them. I can understand them being in the main business districts like down town or at the mall, but not in residential developments.

Split shot I'm with you on that. Why should we pay for some family that moves in right next to an Interstate .Im also in with RJN on the rude bikers riding 3 wide along busy roads daring drivers. Our Seattle New Joke Mayor is an ex Sierra club rep. That should say enough right there. Now they are making Lake City way just a 2 lane road to accomedate 5 people that bike it. Businesses are flameing mad over this.

I have to laugh....as I've been reading the posts between this thread and appropriation of $ for boat launches, I see the sponser is Patty Murray and look at her slogan. Really? Obviously problems are not getting solved ....she didn't get my vote! =d>

She didn`t get mine either. But our prez sure thinks she belongs here as he is set to fly in today to fund her.

I was wondering if it was Mike or Aaron that permitted her advertisement.
Perhaps we need to have a little talk with those boys. LOL

Thats why we are Admirals and commanders but Mike and Aaron are "Supreme Overlords" .Besides there are two sides to every coin. Some are Donkeys others are Elephants . The others ?Who knows.Their decisions are their own.

Just a question, who ends up paying for him to fly here, his security, etc... Is that tax dollars?

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

Somehow I knew this thread was going to go in this direction. Just another one to keep an eye on for when it explodes. And to think,it was going well, but I guess it is election time again, time to start slinging things back and forth.

Yeah, I'll take the blame for this one.....I just couldn't keep my mouth shut so to speak.Marc Martyn wrote:Somehow I knew this thread was going to go in this direction. I should have just stopped at pointing out the irony of who the sponsor was, but I had to go and throw in my POV too. Hope it doesn't lead to anything too ugly! :rambo:
