30 fish month!

What a great August! Ended up boating 30 Muskies, 18 over 30". Can't wait to see what Sept. brings. Heading to Merwin at the end of the week for a few days. Mike.

yes it was a great august not quite as good as jigman but i have 15 muskies 9 over 30 .And last night lost one that was in mid 40,s three different times .went back this morning but no love

Great job! Congrats!... Don't we wish everyday could be like that Saturday on Merwin! Check out the "Lunge Log" in our Muskies, Inc. "Muskie" Magazine....Washington State is doing pretty well I would say. Matt, the President from New Mexico, Chapter 59 even called me to talk about he fishing here last week! I guess word gets around...LOL...

and it just keeps going,hooked 3 today .2 of them in mid 20,s but the one i lost was upper 30,s .Even had a auburn sports and marine salesmen watch me bring a muskie right to our feet ,but it did,nt take . Oh well there,s always tomorrow

Just as a curiosity question. Has anyone eaten a Muskie? Are they delicious ? or are they more like eating a Chub or Squawfish? I know they are a C&R fish mainly. But when you catch one that swallows the gear and you have to kill it to retrieve your gear type of keeping?By the way Congrad on a great season.

Well personally i dont know if there good eating .Iwill never know in fact cause i let all my muskies go .But as far as retreiving your gear and killing it that should,nt be an issue if you have the tools neccesary to properly handle muskies.I would sacrifice a 50$ lure if i had to and besides if the muskie is,nt 50 inches or more its illegal to keep.

Question.. Since a Tiger Musky is half Pike. Wouldnt there be a similar flavor?

Could give Pike a taste and see. I hear it good. I may be way off base but...

I've eaten pike some on the East Coast. I dont think its big here. On the eastern seaboard pike is used in a number of recipes I cook. I subsitute it with cod. I too would release them Ifin I dont eat it I usually wont even kill it.Not even Ratfish.

Yes, I've had Muskie...Not a "Tiger" however. When I was young Muskies Inc. did not exist yet, and many muskies were taken for table fair or simply wasted in the name of Sport. My Dad and I caught, and released. many muskies way back then. However, being a good Father, my Dad did let me keep my first legal muskie I had ever caught because it was the largest fish I had ever seen etc...and I was just a very excited kid...LOL! I still have a picture of that fish that I had to bring to school to show all the other kids!

You can still find many of these "old-time" pictures archived in many places if you wish to see the waste that took place back then. Remember, Gil Hamm did not start Muskies, Inc. until 1966 and along with it came the now very popular "C-P-R" philosophy that is used by many sport fishing groups.

To answer your question about taste. No, I would personally say the muskie is not good table fair. Their meat is actually a little tougher than that of their cousin the Northern-Pike. It also has a slight pink color to it. I would not think that the Tigers out here would be to tasty either considering they spend most of their lives eating Northern-Pikie Minnows, Suckers, and other undesirable rough fish that are primarily bottom feeders. Plus with the 50-inch minimum size-limit the fish would be pretty old and reaching the end of its life-span etc...

Back on topic: I heard "Jigman" caught another four muskies to add to his "total" list for the year! Go Jigman!
