Lake Cavanaugh does not. In fact, aside from the WDFW access area the entire lake is surrounded by cabins and homes. I can't even think of a close campground to Lake Cavanaugh. Now that said, there are two islands at the far end of the lake and I have seen tents on the smaller island. I do not know if the smaller island is private property or whether or not public access is allowed.

neither lake that I am aware of. Offut lake resort would be the closest to American I believe, and is a nice place to stay. THose islands on Cavanaugh I don't think are public property.

What kind of camping are you looking to do? If you have an RV, I'd head to Nisqually Plaza RV Park, nice place that is almost always filled year round. From there it's a short drive to American Lake and to Cabelas not to mention the Nisqually river. Unlike many lakes in Eastern Washington, West side lakes in urban areas don't typically have resorts on or near them anymore due to property values.

There are some cabins available for rent on American Lake.

both the islands are definetly private on Cavanaugh. They are sure sweet looking places you'd would want to pitch a tent though.
Actually on that note... the little island has signs saying it's private. The larger island has signs saying " Keep Off" Sometimes signs like that are put up to "Discourage" people from staying away from somethng that isn't necesarrily private. I have a family friend who has a residence up on the lake. I will try and remember to give him a call to ask him the actual facts on that larger island.

Riverbend Campground is on the Nisqually River. You have to pay but the river is right there with salmon in it as well as a short drive north on I5 to American. There are several lakes around also.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Thank you all! I'll look into Riverbend. Sounds like that might be the best bet for what I'm looking for.
But I might look into Sun Bathers of America to take my wife to next summer. ;)
