HD Fly Tying Videos

Post by Marc Martyn » Sat Feb 19, 2011 10:13 pm

I stumbled across some great fly tying videos. Many are patterns that are new to me, possibly local. They are produced by Dakota Angler in Rapid City, SD. Look them over, they are pretty well produced and informative. Be sure to take a look at the Hyrdropsyche Larva video. That is a great looking Caddis.[thumbup]

You're right about the Hydropsyche. I like the legs especially.

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

Cool! I've been looking for some more local videos. I've been tying from the scottish guys, and I need practice. My ties look retarded.

Sometimes retarded is good.[tongue] I was up late one evening tying and found out by the results of my experimental pattern that I should have gone to bed hours before. I came up with a fly that, when I was finished with, I almost threw it away. It looked really dumb. The next morning I thought, well, I'll try it even though it is retarded. While on the lake using the fly and catching fish after fish, my fishing partner asked me what I was using. I told him that it was a stupid looking fly that I tied about 1:30 in the morning, so I called it "After Midnight". He looked at it and burst out laughing. When he regained his composure, it replied, "Man, that fly is butt ugly!" So, now it is referred to "The Butt Ugly". Oddly enough, it is one of my best patterns.[rolleyes]
