How big is this fish???

Post by edge540 » Sun Sep 25, 2011 3:05 am

Had a good day of fishing today, Tied into 5 nice fish and wished I had a scale in the boat. Here is a pic of the biggest one, It measured 22 inches from tip of the tale to the lips in a straight line. Any guesses on weight?

Hard to say. Some websites estimate 22 inch fish at 6 to 6 1/2 pounds. Kind of a crap shoot, girth has alot to do with it too. I'd guess between 4 and 5 pounds? Scale might be a good investment. LOL

I'd guess 5-5 1/2 lbs. Damn nice fish.

For future catches, take the length of the fish and also get the girth (widest part). With those two measurements, there a several web sites that give pretty good estimates.

Nice Fish, and I suggest about 6 pounds.
Too much water, so many fish, too little time.

Certain fish at 22 inch are for sure 7-8 lbs, but looking at his fish I would say 6lb even. Still a heck of a fish, and buy a quality scale and never look back man.

Today I caught a bass that was 23" length and 16" girth, my personal best. Using those numbers, a website estimator says 8.3 lbs. Any opinion if that weight is fairly accurate?

Did you get a picture ? Either way, you'll never know the truth  Buy a quality digital scale, around $30 depending on brand and you are good to go. You can always buy $$+ if you like but a Berkley digital works great.

I caught a bass with those exact dimensions 23" x 16" a week or so ago and it was 6lbs 10oz on my Berkley scale that goes to the 1/4oz.

Thanks for the reply. I don't like to hear 6lb 10 oz, but so be it.

Very nice bass no matter the weight but I would have to agree with Kzoo - probably between 5 and 6 pounds. It would have been heavier prior to the spawn.
