Way to go riverbound! Curious if you only bonked 1? The Sky is great jig water.

Thanks! Yeah, only kept that last one. I usually do the C & R thing, but that one started to bleed so I had to keep it... which I was perfectly happy with

Good call dude, thats smart to know when the fish is bleeding to the point of not being able to survive, and releasing the rest. thats generally what i do also! Again great job, and thanks for location. You say my advise helped, did you get them on the bobber-drift rig?

Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
riverbound nice fish. I worked that area today for a few hours and manged to hook one and lost it. Fishing was slow, I won't try it until next week. I noticed you were from Seattle, I'm in Shoreline. If you ever need a fishing buddy, let me know!
Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
Nice fish, you must have been the one I heard yelling. Some guy next to me said a guy caught his first steelhead when I heard all the commotion.
Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
WTG! That first fish is always the adrenaline rush. Reiter can be on fire when the fish move in like that, and looks like you had the perfect color that they wanted. Awesome and thanks for leaving some fish for the rest of us to catch!

Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
I just have to chime in here and also say thanks to everyone here - I"m the guy in the second pic that riverbound posted. I never post on here, but I'm always lurking around, reading reports and researching. That day we were out was one of the best days fishing I've ever had and I only went 1/5, but the one I brought in (10 pounds) and the *one that got away* (12+ lbs) made the day insanely awesome. I hope to post more in the future, but I've learned a huge amount thanks to everyone here!
It should also be noted that all the people on the river the other day were super friendly and helpful toward one another. I don't know if it's cause the fishing was hot, but whatever it was, it was pretty cool. I traded some of my eggs to a guy for some of his hooks because he noticed my hooks were shitty (one broke in half on the first fish it hooked) and the same guy helped me bring in my 10-pounder. Nice to see everyone being respectful and courteous to one another, especially when it's so crowded out there. Makes it a hundred times more fun. That's what it's all about!

Hey, if your having trouble with hooks, go with BLACK GAMAKATSU OCTOPUS HOOKS. I've never EVER used anything else, they simply dont bend, dont break and you have to really mess it up to even make it go dull. The black gammies are much more durable and simply, in my opinion the best steelhead/salmon hook out there.

Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
Thanks, FF. I'll definitely try those out next time. I actually just bought some Owners Cutting Point (I think that's what they're called), so I'll see how those work out. I've heard those Gamakatsus are really good, too, though. I've always used those pre-tied Brad's, but that's what broke in half in the fish's mouth the other day, so I don't think I'll ever use them again. Too much risk! Thanks again for the tip!

Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
i gotta agree with freak..i started using gamakatsu back in da early 90s for salmon and steelhead in cali the red ones bent out more easy the bronze ones broke sometimes..the black ones were the strongest out of all the colors..owner are good hooks but a little thicker for my taste and cost more tham gami..owner do make awesome hooks thou but seems they loose da sharpness after a while

Good info, Thanks Slayer - I'm finally dialing things in, I think. None of my hooks ever have time to lose sharpness, because I lose my hooks first!

Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
hmm ive actually used brads in da 50pack for 2.99$ at sportco some hooks were defectiv..i used them during da puyallup and nisqually during lasy yr you can lose 20 hooks easy in a matter of hours can be costly with gamis ..i just test each hook for strength and sharpness best bang for da buck..ill use brads in certain rivers for salmon where theres lots of snags like da nisqually cuz gamis can be expensive..but for steel i wouldnt skimpnatewatters wrote:Good info, Thanks Slayer - I'm finally dialing things in, I think. Re: Steelhead Pictures 2011-2012
SOOOOOOO went to test out vedder for first time today. Released a nice 8lb hatch hen early, then THIS PIG devoured my eggs in a seam along the bank, my bobber went down 18 inches from the rocks on the beach, fast current out beyond that. Somehow held her in the hole until tired enough to land. Take a look at this hog. Vedder river aint sporting no small steelhead. The average size for fish weighed at tackle shop already this year is like 11lbs.

There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.
