Ah yes, living close to a Cabelas is nice! However, don't get all caught up in it. I can leave my house and be inside the Cabelas at Post Falls in less that 10 minutes. It's nice to have one so close but the prices at Wholesale Sports 15 minutes away are consistantly lower. They also seem to have a much better selection of soft plastics. I have talked with the outfitters at the local Cabelas store about tailoring their stock to meet the type of fishing in the area. They tell me they are at the mercy of their corperate people. I have made many suggestions of things they should stock but they just tell me the same thing. "We have no say in what's on the self".

The ambiance at Cabelas is wonderfull, and they have food. Now if they would only start selling beer, I wouldn't have to leave! LOL

Not so sure that's really true. When they opened in Lacey the selection of local tackle was horrid, the dept manager said that was changing and they stock the stores by local demand and request, he had a clip board in hand for wants and wishes for the weekly sales meeting. They have plenty of local type stock now and they don't seem to run out after the first week of a season or run. Of course they have to open the store with a "prototype" selection of goods, that's just to get it going. I suspect the Tulalip store will be be fairly well stocked right off the bat as they now have history and trends for this general area.

I sure wish the Post Falls store had a list for "Wants" I was in there three days ago asking for 80lb flourocarbon leader for pike fishing. The guy in the fishing department told me 80lb flouro was not for pike fishing, it was for catching sail fish and stuff like that. I assured him that I wanted it for pike fishing and if they would stock it, it would get sold regularly. I told him I could make a phone call and have 3 or 4 guys there ready to buy it if they had it. He just told me it was not for pike fishing and it wouldn't sell. Then I showed him the pre made 80lb flouro leaders they had on the shelf. He still told me they had no input on what got stocked on their shelves.

Cabelas has it down to a science when it comes to ambiance. Online you can shop prices. In the store it is easy to get caught up in it. I'm glad they don't sell beer. I would own all kinds of stuff. LOL

sooo. i've never been to a cabelas grand opening. i'm kinda in the market for a new fish/depth finder. nothing too fancy, but decent. would the grand opening be the time to maybe buy one? do they usually offer discounts or sales at openings or are they just pretty much the same price throughout the year?

I'm going to have to wait till the weekend. I was fully prepaired to stay up the 24hr required but as the day came near found a dental appointment. Curse that scheduling 6 months in advance.....

I went to the Lacey opening then a few days later with no "help" and there were still lots of door busters and stuff.

IMO Cabela's is over priced. Pretty much the only time I buy anything from em is if I can't find it locally or I get a gift card. For me, the two nice things about this one is I can order online and pick it up at the store - saving shipping costs AND I have someplace to hang out when my wife wants to go to the outlet mall  That said , I think I will still try to get up there this weekend just to check it out.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

I've found the prices in the stores are very competitive locally. If you’re basing prices off the catalog, you’re way off base. They also have cloths that fit me, unlike JCP, Macy's and Nords that seem to feel the average American male is sized and shaped like a 14 yo skinny malnourished girl. The other good part of shopping at the big C is they know how to stock the shelves. It doesn't take me two or three tries to buy an item because the local SG Store can't figure out how to buy appropriately. When it comes to selection Cabela's has it over most all the other guys. Lacey was a bit of a slow start in the tackle dept. because they followed their prototype that covers most of the rest of the US, not the case now, they're well stocked with local gear for fishing local fair. So my guess would be the new store will be pretty darn good right out or the gate. So next year at the height of the Pink run show me another local retailer that will have pink hoochies on the shelf and in multiple sizes, it won't happen. Customer service? Not another sporting goods store even comes close, they aren't even in the same State with Cabelas. Don't get me wrong I'm a loyal OE customer but sometimes they just can't seem to help themselves unless it a sale item.

So for all the Cabelas haters out there, just don't go, we hear about it every time someone mentions the name.

Same thing happened to me there. I asked for 80lb fluoro because the heaviest they carry on the shelf is 40. The guy asked why I needed it and I told him to tie Muskie and Pike leaders. He looked at me like I was an idiot and assured me I HAD to use steel. Nothing else would work. He wasn't having it. [-( Oh well. The guys at Wholesale are awesome, and really know what they're doing.
