Steelhead Reports and Pics 2012-2013

Post by RiverChromeGS » Sat Oct 27, 2012 8:49 pm

Well everyone, its time again! Last year this thread got some SERIOUS love! Decided to start the thread yet again after whacking a chrome 2 salt 12lb hatch steelhead on the skagit this morning, and i got a little one in the cascade a few weeks ago, so im at number 2 for the winter. Gonna keep track again with my book, last year i got 186 steelhead, so obviously im going for 200 this year! Start posting when you start catching!

Thats a big hatchery steelhead! Wish i could post pictures, but the one winter steelhead i hooked this year spit the hook right at the bank. [sad] Can't wait to really start the season next month. I'll be posting steelhead pictures by thanksgiving...Hopefully.

186 steel head and going for two hundred? I can top that. My goal is to catch at least 100% more, from one to two. [tongue]
Sigh, That's kind of pathetic...

I hope to be able to double my take from last year. I'm really hoping I can hook four this winter. 8-[

We got our first couple of winter runs the other day on the Sky system, it's starting. It'll build slow, but then just like that it'll be a trout pond, just you wait. Just for you Danny I may start keeping track of my fish, we can compare notes at the end of the season.

My goal is just to get out, catch some fish, lose some fish, miss some fish, spend time on the river with friends, and maybe pick up a good story or two..
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

It is wierd how the 3 and 2 salts along with their broodstock return so early. Been tying up some nice jigs that look like they will do some damage up there but not going until december ](*,) is that the cascade or skagit?

thats cool, I remember going over to the hatchery last year in november and seeing a dozen or so huge fish but they were too chrome to be salmon but the cascade gets a broodstock program along with the chance of 3 salt fish coming back. Are you using straight borax now or still salmon cured eggs?
