Good.

You wouldn't believe the line I took off a tree in early Oct. Must have been 30 feet of 16 or 20 pound test mono. Draped over a few limbs with one end of the line in the water. I undraped it, and the beaver lure just about dropped off the limb it was on. I don't think the 'fisherman' even TRIED to unhook the thing from the tree. And the lure wasn't there the day before. I end up pulling LOTS of line out of trees, off docks, and even off the bottom every year. Got a newish crankbait a couple months ago. Image

Me too, always pulling stuff out of the river. Never buy plugs, just recover and re-hook. The bucket on my pump is really good at catching line. Everytime I pull it off the river, I have a good 50' hanging from it.

I rescued a goose once that had been eating from some duckweed that had fishing line wrapped in it. My grandpa and i were walking down to the I-82 ponds over in Eastern Washington and the goose almost jumped out of the bushes at us flapping and beating its wings. You could see a huge knot in its throat where all the seeds and line were bunched up and it couldn't even honk. My grandpa threw his coat over it and held it as I started pulling gently on the line until this huge clump of duckweed pods and tangle of line popped out of its throat. Surprisingly it did not try to attack us when we were done and seemed to be relatively unharmed.

Always a pleasure to hear those kind of stories.

Good for the owl! I love those things. Saw one the other day, it was a little guy. But I've seen quite a few animals fall victim to messy anglers.

I've saved a heron from fishing line before, and helped quite a few seagulls that got caught trying to eat bait as we cast. Seriously, they're so dumb they grab your herring out of mid air. Fishing out at Westport it always seems to be a kid that catches a seagull. Most of the time they fly around until they get reeled in and I don't even have to use a jacket, they tame right up and let you untangle them. Crows are a little bit more moody, so I'm a little more careful with them. Although that heron was really kind of scary, being so big and whatnot. He honked really loud and that was startling, but calmed down and let me cut him out of the kine jungle he was in. You'd be amazed how often I see these birds tangled up in fishing line, weasels and small rodents as well. There was a nest off the bank at this one spot that caught a bunny. The thing was tame like a pet rabbit once I got him undone, and wouldn't leave. Just wanted to lick you and eat the grass you fed would give him. This is why we need to clean up those snags more often! I know it's probably pretty hard to get the line off the power lines and stuff, but the line on the bank and trees within reach is really easy to pull out and throw away.
