OOPS!!! Who's been hooked?

Post by mallard83 » Sun Mar 24, 2013 7:00 pm

Found this picture in with some of my albums. It happened when unhooking a humpy a few years ago on the Sky. Had to just grit my teeth and push it through the rest of the way so that I could crimp the barb and pull it back out. Btw, knuckle meat is very hard to force a hook through (even with a Gami). Who else has hooked up with themselves or something other than a fish?

been there done that 4 times. once back in '88 on Lake Meridian from a LITTLE!!!!! 6" Largemouth that flipped while I had it lipped, threw a Pop-R right into the meat of my right palm. I'm right handed and so had to do what you did then work on the barb with my left hand IN THE DARK! LONG before I learned of the fishing line technique of pulling the hook/barb out.
i
And 3 or maybe 4 times in '10 and '11 all on Lake Sawyer. 3 or 4 times from a fish, once when the lure was hooked in a rope on a dock and I put my hand on the rope/dock too close to the lure and got stuck. I ripped the hook out of my thumb and went home, I was pissed.

I only hooked myself one other time past the barb than that (knock on wood). It was on the Cle Elum River (back when you could use barbs) I caught an average sized trout and the hook came out when I was unhooking it and buried in a finger. I was only about 8-10 years old at the time and the only method I knew was to push away from the barb and then pull. Luckily it was only a 1/16 oz roostertail and it came out ok.

Ive been hooked a few times, nothing bad. I just have bad luck with 3/4 oz cannonballs. lol. But one time, on the skok a gentlemen was fly fishing. I wasnt paying attention and on his back cast the line wrappedd around my head and the hook caught the line. I got lucky. Lol

Worst I had was with an old time bass lure, one with a big cut barb. Ran that thing into my finger up to the bend of the hook. Got it removed in the emergency room. Ouch.

Since it happened at work there was an accident report filed that went all the way up to the VP. Not the way to get name recognizability.

I was fishing about 20 miles from Moses Lake on Winchester wasteway chasin spiny rays. Had a Rapala hanging from my vest when a wasp decided to make a pest of himself. I swatted at him and burried 4 of the 6 hooks in my right palm, finger, thumb, and still stuck in my vest. Drove the 20 miles back to the hospital, stick shift, and had them remove the hooks as I could not get any leverage to yank them out.

I remember hearing a story once of a guy who was fishing the Edmonds pier and tried to make a sidearm cast and his hook snagged in another guy's head and ripped a strip of skin almost 360 around his head. ouch.

First and last attempt of fly fishing when I was 8. Hooked my ear and whipped my neck.

Why were you standing on the other side of the river? Playing catch and you missed? Image

I've been hooked so many times it's not even funny. Tying jigs, the darn cats go fer the marabou, step away for a beer and bam! Owner in the foot. I got my ears pierced by an intruder as I was instructing on a wild cast once. The worst was snapped free from the hook keep while I was walking through bushes. A branch load the rod up, and BAM, had only one hook not buried in my middle finger.

bass fishing at a local lake in a boat with my dad I hook the back of my dads head while he was on the cell phone, haha and this was when I was like 12 yrs old.
But my dogs on the other hand...they have a knack for standing behind you and following your bait or what ever and normally wanting to taste what ever it is and somethimes they get hooked.

My fly fishing buddy decided to start casting one day without looking behind him. I just so happened to be walking behind him up river. His line whipped around my neck and the fly came all the way around my neck 360 into my jugular. Lucky for me the hook just barely stuck in so when he went for the forward cast it just popped out.

My buddies son set the hook while I was removing it from a King's mouth, off the coast.
