There is a take out at Bucoda park. I was thinking about putting in near Thompson Creek and floating to there. You will need to bring a long rope tho to drag your toon up the bank. I have seen several guys put it at Bucoda and drift down but have no clue as to where they are taking out.Weekend-warrior17 wrote:Ahh yea I hear what your sayin how many hours you think it would take fromm first bridge down from the hatchery all the way done to the bridge closest to the free way? Re: Skook Lately?
if you really want to get into some fish drag your toon to the corner hole and row to the other side and tie off to a tree or something and start casting jigs and stuff haha, probably find lots of gear as well.

Re: Skook Lately?
Brat, I think that method would result in a lot of hooks and lead finding you so to speak. That guy driving the cart picking up balls at the range comes to mind. or a real life battle ship scenario...
Re: Skook Lately?
In normal flows you can wade across the shallow spots and get out on that island and fish the corner hole from the opposite side. It's not that unheard of either, lots of guys do it. The river is packed full of fish right now, they're in tight like sardines, so nobody should care. The other thing that you can do is wade across the tail out of the deadling hole and fish the slab hole from the other side. Don't need the toon to do that, and if there's enough water to make wading too tough, the fish will be bitey enough that it doesn't matter where you fish from.Brat Bonker wrote:if you really want to get into some fish drag your toon to the corner hole and row to the other side and tie off to a tree or something and start casting jigs and stuff haha, probably find lots of gear as well.
Re: Skook Lately?
Oh, and just got back from the Skook today and it's jam packed full of fish. The sun wasn't helping the bite, but we found some brighter biters in the morning.

what part are you fish nate and I know you can get to the island but I mean way back in that corner where those snag and tree stumps are as well as the fish but yeah you would have to emply the 5 Ds of dodge ball every once in a while.

Re: Skook Lately?
Ahh sweet all good idea's and methods thanks. I was going to float the pontoon cuz it gives more ways to fish the river for steel head not cuz there wasn't many fish but yea. Might be headed down in the morning with my grandpa hope to see some of ya'll down there. Come convosate if ya see meh.
Re: Skook Lately?w
Heading down in the a.m.!!! Slay some dark steel...maybe chrome who knows haha
Re: Skook Lately?
If I give away ALL my secrets, I'm out of a job, Brat. Fish are everywhere, and yea, I've fished the corner hole from the other side, even behind the trees. You can get there if you really want to, but it's not even the best hole in the river to fish, and I rarely even fish it unless I want to hang out with the other guys who are fishing it. And if folks throw weights at you, call the sheriff, because that's assault and against the law, no matter how irritated they get. The river belongs to us all.Brat Bonker wrote:what part are you fish nate and I know you can get to the island but I mean way back in that corner where those snag and tree stumps are as well as the fish but yeah you would have to emply the 5 Ds of dodge ball every once in a while.

Re: Skook Lately?
Hey guys ive got a question, lately when I have been drift fishing my line will be lower in the drift then where my actual lead is, causing like an underwater belly in my line. I think this may be resulting in less hookups is there a way to fix this ?
Re: Skook Lately?
The current is dragging your line faster than your weight moves. Happens if the water is deeper, current on the bottom is slower than on the top, if you're casting too far upstream or if you have too much weight, too much slack in your line. Simple fix is to make sure you reel in and stay tight to your weight, try different weights. If you can still feel the bottom ticking, you can still feel a bite though. It's tricky and you'll get the hang of it with practice. If anything bumps, hit it hard!king killer wrote:Hey guys ive got a question, lately when I have been drift fishing my line will be lower in the drift then where my actual lead is, causing like an underwater belly in my line. Re: Skook Lately?
try bobber dogging that might fix it haha and yeah I understand nate but like a general location of around deadline, salmon hatchery or fields, no secret hole. yeah the cornerhole SUCKS this year I thing because that alder tree that fell is slowing down the current. last year I hooked so many out of that hole and this year nothing.

The corner hole was super slow only saw one guy get two bobber downs on peach jig under bobber.

The last couple times I went out there the bite has been dead. All the fish are spooked.
Re: Skook Lately?
I thought about going to the skook on saturday. Last minute I decided to go to the cowlitz instead. There was a bite on for about 2 hours. I didnt catch any but there was probably 10 fish that came out between about 15 guys on the bank by me. Since I planned on going to the skook I didnt load up on much lead and ran out of 1 and 2 oz cannonballs also my 12lb test never had a chance against the steelhead that I saw coming out. Almost all the steelhead caught were bright and most were over 10lbs. I stopped by barrier dam on my way out. It was slow as expected but 3 springers were caught! and 5 springers have been captured and transported to lake scanewa

There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.

12 pound should do fine, I've brought big fish in at Blue Creek in high flows on less. The fish don't really want to go anywhere if you let 'em swim for a bit they get really tired out. Although to play it safe, I'd run at least 15. I'm stoked for the springers!ingi wrote:I thought about going to the skook on saturday. Last minute I decided to go to the cowlitz instead.
