Transferring Hotspots

Post by stmcmurray76 » Sun Apr 28, 2013 5:48 pm

Hi, I'm trying to transfer the hotspots I exported from this forum, but my HumminbirdPc program is spitting out an error. It seems to be a problem with the way the xml file is written.
How do you guys transfer your files?
I've tried GPSBabel like I've seen on many searches, but I don't think I'm setting up the options correctly.
Thanks in advance.

Are you referring to the Premium Member Hotspots? It's a .gpx file that you should be exporting to your computer and then load on your GPS unit.

Yes sir,I've exported the .gpx file just fine, but my HumminbirdPC program spits out an error when I try to open it. I've marked my own waypoints, which ends up being a .gpx file, and have no problems seeing them in HumminbirdPC. I've compared the 2 files, and there is a slightly different line. In the waypoints file my fish finder created, the file/lines start with </gpx>. And the file downloaded from here starts with </gpx:gpx>. The error I'm getting says something about not being able to open gpx:gpx.
I know these are simple XML files, so one could just edit the line, but with hundreds of lines, that could take a while. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and how you did you solve it? Thanks

This is definitely an Aaron question. I'll ask him to check this thread.

I use GSAK. Have you tried that?

I've been playing with GSAK to no avail. It seems to be a pretty complicated program. I consider myself pretty tech savvy, but I just don't have the time to sit down and figure this out. Does anyone else transfer hotspots to their Humminbird? How do you guys do it? It seems pointless, I know, because I can look at the hotspots on this site and remember them, but its nice, also, to display that specific waypoint on my Humminbird and check it out. I have a Humminbird 597 ci combo. I just can't figure out how to transfer the hotspots waypoints to a format that 'HumminbirdPC' requires. As you know, HumminPC is whats used to transfer waypoints and other things to the unit. What does everyone else do?

bummer. I assume you contacted Hummingbird to see if they had some suggestions. You can always do a screen shot of the hotspots and print out a map. That isn't ideal but it gets you in the areas that people mark. I used the Chelan hotspots to get started and then started making my own based on marking when fish were caught.

In the mean time I'll see if I can't get the files to export with a single <gpx> parent node and see if that helps.

Thanks for your help, I've been researching the problem and haven't found much help on the matter even from Humminbird.

I tried to email you a GPX file to test but your mail server returned it as spam. Let me know if you can fix that or if you have somewhere else I can send it.

Thanks for your efforts Aaron, but I got the same error with the test file you sent me. I have attached the screenshot of the error.
