July 1st

Post by FishBaitThe2nd » Sat Jun 15, 2013 6:09 pm

I usually start fishing for pinks in mid july.
I would like to get out a bit earlier this year, where they gonna be at within the first week? Still a bit early in my neck of the woods.

I'm curious also. I'm new to the area and I'm retired so lots of time during the week to go fishin. Early July..... maybe point no point? or Fort Warden?

Point no point is what I was thinking. I remember 2 years ago at the hoodsport hatchery I was seeing tons of fish in mid july but not sure about early.

There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.

Hoodsport fish generally seem to start returning a few weeks earlier than the other runs. I have a feelinv it will be seeing pinks weeks before any other systems.

Those places are way long drives for me just for pinks. I'll do the Lincoln park to Alki for pinks. They are just gonna be used for crab bait. I like pinks eggs for steely.

My neighbors like pinks so they go there, and crab bait. And there still fun to catch before the skok opens, not far from me either,

Not going out this week, too many other things going on. Next week I'll take my Seahawk and stay at my buddies place in Mt Vernon and fish Rosario Strait... Eagle Bluff, Thatcher Pass etc.

Eagles a good early spot, I can't even begin to count the number of fish I've taken between there and the Banks.

Back in the early 80's I had an 18' Glas Ply I used to keep at a boathouse on Guemas channel near dntn Ancortes. I fished the San Juans a lot back then. For awhile I kept my boat at another boathouse at Meadowdale but there arent any of those boathouses left. A boathouse was a big shed and your boat was kept on a dolly and then pushed over to an elevator, the dolly was chained down and they lowered the whole works to the water and you just backed out into the water. Cool deal. But they closed up that boathouse around 1986 or so and I haven't fished up there since. I have a friend who just retired and bought a house in Mt Vernon so I will prob fish up there more.

That's excellent! My brother and I both took up residence in BHam for many years but then when I moved back down here he moved to Lopez. We've had a quick run to the Banks ever since. Up until the last few years we've been totally spoiled salmon fishing. Head up to the island and head out for the tide change. Limit everyday! Here's one from Eagle, it's from a while back but none the less there are some fishes out there...... 57# in Puget Sound.
