Dosewallips is good for trout, you should be able to catch some pretty easily. If you bring your float tube, you can head up to Leland Lake for trout, bass, perch, and crappie. There's also other lakes that might be good for the float tube, Ludlow, Sandy Shore, and Tarboo but those lakes are a little farther than Leland. I don't remember pinks being in there that early in mid July for Hood Canal but then again I haven't fished Hoodsport for pinks in forever, most of the pink run is still up in the Sekiu/Port Angeles area during that time I thought? I thought the fishing started getting good for pinks end of July, then first week of August in Hood Canal?

From the online searching. I have discovered, your timeline for Pinks in the lower hood canal, when it is open is spot on.

Sounds like this might be a little too far north for you but I've gone to Leland a few times and had it produce on some trout, they got perch in there as well. But if it were me, I think I'd go after the pinks anyway... I've gone to falls view, rocky brook falls, and hamma hamma. Rocky Brook and Hamma Hamma are pretty cool. I've only tried to fish the dosewallips once and didn't catch anything. There is another falls south of hoodsport... iron bridge falls (or something like that it's been about 4 years) but it's kinda hard to see if I remember

Well, maybe not! I will pass pretty close to Leland at least once, and perhaps twice. Timing, dictates a stop to wet a fly. Say, what is the bank access like at Leland? Size of fish you have caught there?

What is the story behind your site name? Anything to do with South Dakota? If so, what part. My dad and I make a trip back to the Mid-West every year. He, just today mentioned South instead of North Dakota for that annual trip.

Moto, if you are wondering about Leland...I fish the lake about twice a week during the summer(Though haven't been able to make it out much this year) Anyway, there isn't too much shore access. There are a few somewhat open spots(Trees on each side of the spots) by the boat launch, but not too many people do good over there and personally wouldn't bother. There is however, a public dock on the lake. It's not too big, and can be crowded though. Not sure what type of fishing you'd plan on doing, though it seems like fly fishing? Which wouldn't be easy on Leland without a boat of some sort. Anyway, it is an excellent lake for trout, and I rarely go home without limiting out. The fish also are fairly large, with most being around 12 inches, and some up to 20. My biggest this year being 17 inches. Light tackle is the key there. 4lb test and under. I mostly use weighted floats and worms or red power eggs with a slip sinker, so couldn't tell ya if flies work well out there. Small rooster tails work well though. Well hopefully that helps.

I think BlakeP told you what you need to know for Leland, I haven't been up there in a year or two.

I grew up in Sioux Falls, SD (near where the MN and IA boarder meet). Started fishing for anything when I was young, usually bullhead catfish but yellow perch if we were lucky. Dad got a boat when I was about 10 or so and we started going after walleye, once he met a guy that knew what he was doing we did pretty well at it. Fished the Missouri river where I-90 crosses at chamberlain a ton, Dad won a tournament or two on the river, plus a few of the lakes in eastern SD. YP and Walleye still hold a place in my heart. I've taken quite a few pheasants in my day too. Navy shipped me out here in '06 and I love it out here.
