Saltwater Section Information Page Help Needed
Aaron and I were looking to create information pages, similar to the lake information pages, for each of the 13 saltwater Areas here in Washington.
We are looking for someone that would be willing to go through each Area and do a write up, generally 100-200 words, about the Area. Include things like popular locations to fish (whether for salmon, bottom fish, crabbing, squid, etc) and landmarks/points/things of interest.
Since this is turning into a group project I'm modifying my original offer a bit.
Anyone that submits a Saltwater Section Overview (that hasn't already been done) will receive a one year Premium Membership.
Whoever submits the most (quality and posted) overviews will also receive a $50 Cabela's Gift Card and gifts from our sponsors.
Here is our list:
Area 1 -
Area 2 - done, MarkFromSea
Area 2.1 -
Area 3 -
Area 4 -
Area 5 -
Area 6 -
Area 7 -
Area 8.1 -
Area 8.2 -
Area 9 - done, Kodachacher
Area 10 -
Area 11 -
Area 12 -
Area 13 -
If interested, please do one Area overview and send it to support@washingtonlakes.com so we can see if it's what we have in mind.
Your contribution will be noted on each overview, so you will be immortalized forever!

Re: Saltwater Section Information Page Help Needed
I think you could do a great job on a few of them Mike.
Re: Saltwater Section Information Page Help Needed
Part of it is the areas are wide spread and there are several launching areas and fishing places.

Re: Saltwater Section Information Page Help Needed
Thanks Bob, I may end up having to, just that I don't have the time to add another project and was hoping to find someone interested in helping out.
Toni, yes, I know each Marine Area could have a book written on it and that would certainly be part of the challenge, to condense it to a couple hundred words. It would require someone with some decent wordsmith and editing abilities.

Re: Saltwater Section Information Page Help Needed
Maybe the best way to describe an entire Marine Area is to have a composite overview by more than one author and one photographer. Probably each salt water angler has knowledge of different parts of an area - And, probably several anglers can contribute photos and descriptions of different launch areas. I would be happy to help out but I have limited knowledge of entire Marine Areas.
Re: Saltwater Section Information Page Help Needed
I was thinking about that, too. I only know Area 11 from Dash Point to Point Defiance and the southern part of Vashon but it goes up north toward Seattle where I haven't been.bob johansen wrote:Maybe the best way to describe an entire Marine Area is to have a composite overview by more than one author and one photographer. 100-200 words.... doesn't sound like a lot. I can pop out something here on Westport, MA 2. Just let the masses correct it as needed. It's all good!
There's an idea! Just build it here in the forums! Everyone can look it over, edit it as you see fit. Do a separate thread for each MA... remember the sub MAs... There is so much info for each area, multiple species, trends in regs and fluctuations in specie density. I don't see how 100-200 words can cover all that much, it will wet the appetite though!

Here's 50+ words, just a tease!.... smoke break! LOL
Marine Area 2: WESTPORT-OCEAN SHORES- from Leadbetter Point north to the Queets River, excluding Willapa Bay and Grays Harbor.
I can think of no better place to start with in Marine Area 2 than Westport. There's a reason Westport is nicknamed the salmon fishing capitol of the world. With it's proximity to the many rivers that feed Gray's Harbor and the entire coast of Washington, this is a natural interception point for the hordes of salmon that are fattening up for their one way journey up the Washington, Oregon and Canadian rivers to spawn.

With it's proximity to the many rivers that feed Gray's Harbor and the entire coast of Washington, this is a natural interception point for the hordes of salmon that are fattening up for their one way journey up the Washington, Oregon and Canadian rivers to spawn. Look for salmon fishing here June thru September, check current regulations for specifics. Popular salmon fishing locations are numerous. I like the buoys right outside the mouth of Grays Harbor, the broad area just south of the main Westport jetty, offshore from the windmills to the south or the casino, white bluffs or red bluffs to the north. About 10 miles off shore in 180-220' of water is also a tremendous producer at times. It's pretty special when you can watch whales breaking the surface and be catching salmon simultaneously! Generally, salmon fishing is closed Friday and Saturday, check emergency regs at WDFW website for increased opportunity announcements. The bar here can be deadly! know your boat's limitations and check the NOAA website for bar conditions and wind/wave height.
Besides salmon, Marine Area 2 has crabbing, razor clamming, ling cod, halibut, sea bass and tuna. Check current regulations for specific seasons and limits. Crab can be had just to the south of the jetty and other locations. Razor clamming is a hoot Fall, Winter and Spring when open. WDFW announces each opener shortly before the clam dig. Halibut access is somewhat limited but available, mostly to the north of Westport. Ling cod and sea bass can be fast paced when you find the hot spots, look for the rocky bottom to the north but be wary of the closed area listed in the regulations. Tuna can be had August into September, usually with quite long boat rides but some years warmer currents bring them within several miles of the beach.
All of that is well and good if you have a boat but lots of people fish off of the Jetty for lings, kelp greenling and sea bass. Surf fishing is another popular method for surf and pile perch. I've read that a bit of razor clam can entice a healthy bite!

Are you from Westport travel guides? Looks good to me! I didn't count but I think that it is more than 200 words? But in order to fully describe all that it entails one will, I think, have more than 200 words.MarkFromSea wrote:OK, have at er boys, then Daddy Mike has an intro! Re: Saltwater Section Information Page Help Needed
I would love to see a marine area section as I spend most of my time on the saltwater. I have just started to fish the area so really don't know much of it yet. I am thankful to those willing to share their knowledge with us novices. Thanks for the effort. It is appreciated.

LOL Nah, I just love fishing there. Thanks Toni! I forgot tuna, I'll edit it into the original... I thought Nate might expand on the jetty fishing with a copy and paste/edit, seems he hits it successfully every year. I think it's close to the 200, not quite. That's not counting the punctuation and little words, it/the/I/ect. Ok, guess it did go over....

Hi Mike,
If you don't have takers yet, I can do Area 9 or 10. I'm certainly no expert on either one, but can copy information with the best of them!
