Are you planning on using the rod for trolling, mooching or bank fishing/casting?

Check out the Whuppin' Stick made by Cabela's. It comes in 9' or 10' and various actions. The 9' medium action (4-20lb) is a great inexpensive rod for float/drift fishing steelhead and smaller salmon in the rivers as well as a good casting rod. You can get one a little heavier if you will be mainly fishing for bigger chinooks. They also make a 9' medium heavy rod (14-30) although I can't vouch for that one as I have not owned one. The Whuppin' Sticks do have a limited 10 year warranty through Cabela's though. Damn near impossible to beat for $14.99 (on sale right now).
