Westport or Ship Wreck? Decisions, decisions.
Thinking about popping a few salty salmon in the next few days. The factors involved with deciding where to go are many fold. Westport's weather is the biggest factor in the decision. It sorta looks marginal the next couple days then worse then better.. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/data/Forecasts ... .KSEW.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
More gas, hence money is involved with Westport but that is the nature of the beast. More money gets ya a bed at night or there are alternatives. Again not a show stopper..... YEP! It boils down to the weather! As I get older, I feel more brittle! LOL I prefer not to beat myself up as much these days I guess.
Westport has bigger fish. Ship Wreck is closer, easy drive to get there, cheaper, a better time may be had just because I wouldn't be as tired from the drive.
Just throwing it out there! Any comments are truly appreciated.

I dunno, Mark. I like catching fish, and I like saving money. I'd rather fish shipwreck and be home in time to eat a big steak and sleep in my own bed. And it's August. I refuse to fish in the rain on my day off.

I do hear ya Nate.... Does sound tempting with so many pinks to pilfer..... There is that draw of the many silvers and some kings 23 miles off of shore... (the last trip a couple weeks ago) On that trip the fog was a big factor, sometimes visibility seemed down to 60 feet.... With the current wind, I wouldn't expect that fog this trip.

Here is one 20ish lbs that is so common out there right now. The silvers were strictly catch and release for me, I kept two of this size.

Edmonds was red hot for us at the morning HT. Caught 3 silvers, lost 7 (fished with beginners)

Some of the guys are saying on PP, the Shipwreck is full of purse seiners. Not much sport fishing around there. According to the WDFW, the tribes were supposed to stay north of Mulk..so much for that. Hard to trust those people. If you fish the sound, better to head for west side of Possession or Edmonds, get away from the nets and maybe find some early Silvers.

We fished the area Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday. The netters went about halfway down humpy hollow. Two boats that I saw.

20 pound kings or pinks? That's a easy choice for me. Good luck on your adventure which ever you choose

Re: Westport or Ship Wreck? Decisions, decisions.
I ended up heading to Westport, fished the 27th. Caught a lot of air running out 26 miles in my little 17 footer... beat up pretty good. Fishing was slow but I did score my largest for this summer so it was a good day. Got this 28 lbs king, about 38" long, hen. Enjoy!
The self photos didn't work so well, but, you get the idea.

Thanks Mike! All on less than 10 gallons of gas in the boat, surprised me. Usually less than 15 for a long day like that. It's not for the faint of heart or brittle body in a little boat. LOL Sadly, my body is becoming brittle! LOL This Mon looks like the swell is shortening a bit and the time between swells is lengthening, good stuff to follow for next week I hope. Oh, starting Sep 6th, retention of wild coho is also authorized.... So, in summary, retain ANY 2 salmon in MA 2 as long as they meet the minimum length requirement for their respective species. what is your boat setup? pretty impressive adventures and really great catches
I'd like to work my way off shore next year a bit, I know the C-Dory is up for the task, I'm just not quite there myself.
