Need Help Fishing NW Washington

Post by cjjohnston14 » Fri Oct 25, 2013 10:12 am

Hey there,
I am new to the area and have been doing some of my own experimenting and failed learning at fishing this state. I just recently was transferred from Connecticut back in May and WA is nothing like fishing for Striper, Blackfish or Bluefish. I need help maybe somebody willing to just tell me where to go or who has a kayak that wouldn't mind taking me along to show me the ropes. No one I work with fishes and all the places I try are found via internet. Maybe somebody can be a mentor and a buddy? Thanks!

Are you looking for someone who is fishing from a kayak, or is that not important?
Also, what species and type of fishing are you looking for?

Gear fishing
Fly fishing
Rivers (salmon-steelhead)
Salt or fresh water.
Trout, bass, panfish

And where are you located?

I live in the Silverdale area and I'm stationed at Naval Base Kitsap Bangor. I have a kayak but shore fishing is fine too unless someone wants me to help chip in for gas on a boat. I'm basically looking for a person who is somewhat familiar with the area that just wants another person to fish with honestly. All of the above is fine with me I own several types of rods and gear except I don't have a fly rod yet. I really want to catch some salmon, halibut, lingcod, and sturgeon are my goals while I am here.

There are some folks on this forum who are over in that area. Hopefully somebody can give you some pointers. I am not over there, otherwise I'm always looking to get out to fish.

Pray for rain. The hump is SKINNY slow right now. Fish the hatchery area and the bluffs below and you may find a few brownies, firetrucks and dogs, but it's slow. if you fish handi cap hole, you may be able to snag some, and the meat run at the top has fish in it, but they are guacamole kings.

I'll pray as you say! A local fishing guide suggested I give it a try. He has been taking clients up their and has down quite well. I'll be up there early got a 3 hour drive to get there but hopefully there before the sun rises.

Chico bay just minutes from you is getting chum. there is easy access. You can take your kayak or fish from the bank. Thats a fun and really close fishery to you.

But what are they biting? Or are people snagging them?

The reason I asked is cause I was up in humptulips today for several hours and that's all I saw. The guy I was fishing with and myself were disgusted. We fished with floats and eggs and each caught 1 chum but that was it.
