Things to buy.
As one of my Xmas gifts I was told to put a Bass Pro Shops list together and my dad would pay for it. I was wondering what you guys think are some must have Baits/Lures for LMB and SMB. Also I would really like to start catch Bass on top-water. What Kind/Brand of Frog do you guys prefer? I'd also like to get the frogs that swim underwater, what do you guys prefer there? I usually fish Crank baits, Spinner-baits, Senko, Drop-shot and jig. I bought some Umbrella rigs last year but never caught fish on it what are some good baits for it and what are some good swim baits. Any and all info is much appreciated. Thanks and Merry Xmas to all and keep those lines tight.
Re: Things to buy.
Too many to really remember as I TRY to remember the names. I'd have to look at a catalog and get the proper name of each item. But I like the Bomber line of crankbaits. Nothing wrong with the other brands. I've used Rebel a lot years ago and did great.
For top water I like the Jitterbug in black, Rebel PopR in bass, and other brands/types of popping baits. Spook in full size and mostly the Baby Spook.
And talk about COLORS, hahaha WAY too many for me to try to list at this time, but I'll start with Firetiger, black, crayfish, clearish for the Baby Spook-see why I have to look up the names-. Perch is a great color, gray sorta like a crappy or trout. Different browns.
I'll look in a catalog and finish a decent list.
And don't forget that you'll need different sizes of the same color crankbait so you can fish different depths.
And Rattle Traps, or other brands such as Cordell Spots that are about the same design.
And of course the long minnow-shaped baits like Rapala, along with other brands.

and don't forget dropshotting, carolina rigging, worms, lizards, crayfish imitations, jigs, and the like as those.
1/8th oz round head jigs with a grub or worm trailer, different weights will also work. And shaky-heads with worm trailer.
Tube lures with wide gap hooks rigged weedless for fishing in the weeds, trees, under docks, I like an 1/8th oz weight either inside the tube or a bullet weight at the front.
frogs, mice, both popping and pointy nosed, Snag Proof brand and other brands such as Live Target, and Spro has a popping frog on page 224 of the new ProShops catalog. black, bull frog colors, some people like white.
Smithwick long minnow baits with and without the propeller, page 218 and of course the Devil's Horse.
Heddon Torpedo, and Tiny Torpedo, page 217 the Zara Baby Spooks are on that page also, the color is Clear or Flitter Shad.
You had better talk with your dad about a maximum dollar amount as you can spend hundreds just in crankbaits. I spent $216 the other day and still want to get the same baits in a different size.

Re: Things to buy.
Now, for an important set of questions;
How long have you been fishing? How long have you been fishing for Bass? Have you read any magazines about Bass fishing? If so which ones? Do you have any VCR video tapes? Do you have a VCR machine? or a CD machine? If you don't have any magazines I have lots, if you have a VCR machine I have tapes. I have no CDs as those weren't out back when I was buying tapes. Do you have books on The Black Bass or other Bass fishing books? I have a few of those that have come in handy over the years. How serious are you about Bass fishing? I know you were looking for a Bass boat last summer. It can take lots of reading if you want to learn as much as possible this winter to be ready for spring and summer.

Ive been fishing all my life and bass has been my primary species for 2 years so this will be my third year fishing for bass. I do get magazines and do read them when I have the chance I dont remeber what magazines but I know one is the north american fisherman magazine. I also have some books from them as well. I dont have a vcr but I try to watch videos on it online alot. Bass fishing is pretty seriouse for me as of last year for one order alone I spent 1800 dollars on gear for bass alone. Well before this year I had like no gear and it was my first year tourney fishing so I thought I should stock up on some gear while I have some money.

Bass gear will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no bass gear. Err, something like that.Mikeel1987 wrote:Well before this year I had like no gear and it was my first year tourney fishing so I thought I should stock up on some gear while I have some money.

Re: Things to buy.
now just talking frogs... i use the booyah poppin pad crasher, the river2seas spittin Wa frogs, Spro Dean Rojas Bronzeye Shad ,Koppers Live Target Hollow Body Frog... and strike king KVD sexy frog... i have a bunch of different colors... Darker colored for cloudy /dark days... lighter colors for sunny days... frog fishing at night is a blast... so is using a buzzbait at night...
and just like you, we got serious about bass fishing about a year and a half ago... and have dumped a whole lot of money into catching these fish, just to release them back into the lakes...
12 rod/reel combo's and 30 or so plano 3700 boxes full of tackle... last count we have 280 bags of plastic.... It's a sickness....
on top of that i bought a boat this year and we are restoring it over the winter...

Re: Things to buy.
for frogs... go with a 1/2 oz. to 5/8 oz.... 2.5"s seems to be the normal length... get a couple smaller ones and a couple larger ones... all the softbodied ones come with a double hook in a 4/0 or 5/0 hook....

Mike,
Stop by Limit Out Marine as we carry everything you need for bass fishing here in the northwest. We also can give you free advice on how to catch fish out here as we love bass fishing ourselves. Our bass seminars we put on here are chock full of great information and will start back up here in two months.
