Just thought I'd bring this up since the Fraser River run is forecasted at 23 million Sockeyes and we get an additional 2 Sockeyes in our limit in MA 5-7.
I'm going over to CQ twice for salmon, once 3rd week of July and again in early August. In addition to Silvers and Chinooks, I expect to try some for Sockeyes. I expect to use pretty much what I use in Lake Wa, Silver dodger, 2 or 3 bare orange, red or green hooks and maybe a pink mini squid, with shrimp smelly, trolled real slow on the downriggers.
Anybody else have any ideas?

That's the way I plan to fish them at CQ, it is the same way we fish them in Lake Wenatchee.

I like using a White/UV Mack's Double D Dodger. The 7" one. 12" of 40# Flourocarbon leader, 2 1/0 Pink Gamakatsu hooks, topped with a 2" UV Pink Hoochie. My dad likes fishing a spin-glo on top of his.
I cant wait to get out for these!

So far it sounds like great minds think alike!
Re: Catching Sockeye in salt water
From my understanding it is possible to catch them in the salt, but even the conventional techniques employed in freshwater don't seem to be overly effective in targeting them.
I have caught them on rare instances in the salt, always when targeting other fish and using conventional hootchies/spoons.
