with the big sockeye run predicted and the bonus limit on them at sekiu I plan to be spending as much time up there as possible. has anybody here figured out the tackle and techniques to consistently catch sockeye in the salt?
I've gotten 2 at sekiu over the years but were probably flukes. 1 caught on a cutplug and the other on a large hootchie.

I started a thread awhile back about Sockeyes in the salt. Didn't get much response. I have two trips to CQ planned, first is third week of July and second first week of August. I'm a little worried about the August trip since they may shut down Chinooks if it hits the quota. I'm mostly after Nooks, but will try for Sockeyes, chrome dodger, two red hooks, a small pink/red squid trolled slow 40-60 feet on the DR couple miles into the Straight.
Should be great for Sockeyes in Rosario Straight area.

Thanks for the link! Interesting. He is using normal Hot Spot flashers. I was thinking about using dodgers like we do in Lake WA when there is a Sockeye fishery about once every ten years! He is also talking about a faster troll and a longer leader line than I would use. The mini hoochies are cool, quite a nice variety.
I'd like to know where you can get a variety of mini hoochies like that somewhere around the north side of Seattle.

After I posted I checked Johns Sptg gds website and he shows a lot of mini squids. It is closer for me so I'll give him a shot.
