Salmon fishing near area 11 - tacoma/vashon

Post by Taylor280 » Sun Jun 08, 2014 8:19 pm

Hey anybody know of any good spots to fish from a pier or a dock or particular spot? Don't have access to a boat right now since my buddy isn't in town, but would still like to try my hand at fishing for some salmon.

Try the Point Defiance Boathouse dock. Also further down Ruston way towards Commencement Bay there are docks you can fish from. People also fish from shore around Browns Point but I think thats mostly for Coho.

seen some nice kings caught off point defiance in the past. seen most on buzzbombs but herring and one on a nightcrawler too. plenty of flounder and sole too.

although its legal to keep unclipped kings off the docks and says so in the regs one of the wardens said he will right tickets for it anyway.

If anybody has a boat and wants a tag a long I'm more than happy to join! I can pitch in for gas or lunch, or gear or whatever!

There is a pier at Dash Point that is good for Kings and Coho. If you go there, try to get on the south east corner and pitch chartreuse buzz bombs or cut plug herring with a banana weight set up. Cast as far out as possible and count down. Even let it settle to the bottom for kings and then start your retrieve. Every once and a while let it go slack and fall back to the bottom. Many time the kings will hit it on the drop and I have even had them hit a cut plug while it was laying on the bottom.

Coho like it moving. And give it a extra twitch or speed it up and stop it every once and awhile. Coho will follow it like they are in a trance with their nose almost touching it, but jerk it or stop it and WHAM, they can't resist.

Lot of fish caught off that pier.

Good luck.
Forgiveness is between them and God. My job is to arrange the meeting!

several people at the boathouse told me. same warden who I got to watch get yelled at by 3 old guys last thursday about how some of them do they're job. "you guys don't ******* know the laws your writing tickets for half the time" was the first thing I heard while walking buy. he wasn't doing a great job of keeping his cool btw.

I'd have to call BS on a Warden saying he'll right a ticket for something he knows is lawful. A Warden's job is hard to get and I would imagine they would want to keep it [wink]

It would be unfortunate but I suppose they could write tickets for anything legal or illegal. One would just have to go to court and fight it. If that happened too many times someone (higher up) might say something to the warden.
As far back as I remember a person could keep a wild king off the docks.
