Bass stole my trout

Post by tfaas » Mon Aug 11, 2014 6:27 am

I just had a bass take a 12" trout off my line. I'm at plummer lake in Centralia, Wa shore fishing. I reeled the trout tothe shore and I saw a huge bass come up and grab it, flicked it's head and was gone. It snapped my 4# leader. I've only been freshwater fishing for a few months. Has anyone had this happen? I stood there in shock for a minute or two.

Not to me personally, but I've seen it happen more than once. I've also seen a tiger take a trout at the boat on Evergreen Reservoir, completely freaked out the family on the boat who had no clue the lake contained "sea-monsters".

G-man, when did you catch a trout in Evergreen? its my understanding that it has been several years since it was stocked with trout, I was under the impression that there weren't any in there unless maybe a couple holdovers that are few and far between

I've heard of it happening. The only time that happened to me was a week or so ago when I had a 5" bass on the crankbait and I saw a big bass about 3 pounds come out from under the pads and grab the little bass. The big bass wasn't able to keep ahold of the little bass and I was able to boat the little one. A couple days later the pads were gone! The home owner cut the pads away, SUCKER! And there is nobody living there as it's a new unfinished house.

This happened to me at beaver lake. I watched the bass creep up and watch for a while then BAM! ripped one off my stringer.

That reminds me of when a garder snake grabbed my blue gill on the stringer, which was on the shore/ground behind me. I turned around and saw it. I took the fish away from the snake, let the snake go as I like snakes, then I went home. I should have let the snake have the fish, but it was mine and I wanted to eat it. This was when I was in high school. many centuries ago.

As I remember fishing out of my tri-hull, that would make it pre-2006. The lake even had a fair number of walleye in it at the time.

Many times over the years. The most memorable was at Banks when a huge largemouth grabbed a 12" crappie right as I was about to lift it out of the water.

I appreciate the responses. I was back at the same spot today. My plan was to catch a few trout and see if it bring in the bass again. A guy came down and told me the same thing happened to him and his daughter. He also came looking for bass. Unfortunately him, his friend and two other guys fishing were ploding around making a racket. So I think they may have spooked anything close by.
