Tulalip Bubble for Coho?

Anyone fish the Bubble for silvers? I usually fish Kayak Point for silvers, but those Stilly fish don't always like to cooperate. Now that I have a bigger boat with downriggers, I'm hoping to get into some better coho fishing around the 8-2 area. Any advise?

98% of The Coho up that far would be heading for the Stilly, and yes they are well known for being tight lipped. I would launch out of Mukeltio and fish Ship wreck down to Edmonds.

Shipwreck for sure. That's where they wait for fresh water and you are targeting fish from all over the sound. If you have to fish up north, the Racetrack between Hat and Camino Head is a better spot. Not to brag but I posted this bit in the articles section last year. Works for us, limited my boat on Silvers 14 out of 15 trips last Fall. Lot of good stuff in the articles section.

Thanks guys. I figured the consensus would be to fish the Shipwreck instead. I got an anual parking pass for the Kayak Point launch so thought I would see what you guys thought. Ill focus on the Shipwreck area. Thats a nice write up BARCHASER... lots of good tips.

scraig: I fish Shipwreck in my 16' Starcraft, but I launch out of Everett. I prefer to launch from Everett and drop my gear just South of the ferry terminal at Mukilteo and troll down to Shipwreck. Better launch by far at Everett and it's not weather dependant like Mukilteo can be. I've managed to do just fine with that routine.

Mulk gets nasty when the wind blows. Plus, they always pull up the docks in September. I got tired of taking my boat out of the garage, towing up to Everett, launching etc. So I moored it this season at Everett.

Ok, I'll launch at Everett. I've only launched there once, but in a different boat. My boat is a 16' Lowe deep vee aluminum hull. I'm a little worried about running into rough water, but I'll just monitor the Marine forecast. I plugged that route into Navionics and it said its only 5.6 miles and 12 minutes to run from Everett to Mukilteo, so that a lot better than what im doing now launching at Kayak and going down to the Bubble. With a boat that size, I'd watch the wind and the ferry's and launch a Muk. If the weather starts to turn, you want to be able to GTFO 'a there right now. In coming tide on the Bar is where I like to hit 'em. Bam, bam, done! You might hit a stray king from PNP. I used to fish with a buddy out of there all the time, in his 17' Starcraft. The trick is to have someone on the boat, someone in the rig. Drop the boat in and get away from the docks. Then come pick up the driver off the end of the piers. Do the reverse for haul out. Everyone will line up on the docks waiting for a haul out. Don't do it. Drop off the driver and back away from the docks. When the rig is backed in, pull in right past everyone and right on to the trailer, clip the lead and pull out. Some of the folks tied to the doc will get all butt hurt when you go past but the rule is, it's your turn when your trailer is in the water, not when you're tied to the doc.

The docks at Mulk get pulled out by 9/30. Last year it was more like mid Sept. Makes it a little more challenging if the wind blows. I did launch at Mulk twice last year because the last 3 miles across to Everett were getting fogged in a lot. I don't like running that last 3 miles in the fog with all the boat traffic. The fog is the biggest thing I don't like about launching at Everett. Neither Everett or Mulk is perfect. But that's Seattle, never easy, not that many launch ramps around here. In the Portland area there's a ramp on both the Columbia and the Willy every 2-3 miles. You can use the sling launch at Edmonds for 25 bucks!
