Crock Pots

Post by racfish » Fri Jan 11, 2008 10:36 am

I dont know much about the people on here but I'm a single guy for now(looking though).Being on my own and working m-f makes it hard to come home and cook dinner every night. So I have been crock potting for quite a few years.Last night it was a whole chicken with turnips, rutabegga, carrots, celery ,white wine water and seasoning.I cooked it for 8-10 hours .When I get home the aroma just is everywhere in the house when I get home. The chicken was so tender and the stock is fantastic.
If you dont or ever had a crock pot for chicken or a fat pot roast(chuck works great to).You dont know what youre missing.Ifin you dont have a crock pot I urge you to get one and try it out.
Nothing is better then comming home to dinner being ready to go.Then on Sat and Sun while fishing I take the stock in my thermos for drinking.Good luck all.:chef:

Meatloaf also turns out quite well in a crock pot. Don't add any liquid, just the meatloaf in the bottom.

I had some crock pot cooked ribs last week and they got two greasy thumbs up. I even stole my coworkers slab (that's what he gets for not coming in to work!).

just finished a big crockpot full of ribs last night:chef: we usually use a cast iron pot to do this but we are in between move'n so the electric pots came out. sweet-n-sour pork, roasts, chicken, ribs, all become melt in your mouth main course after a hard day of work and or play. <')//<

we usually just cut ribs into manageable portions layer them in the pot with some sort of sauce that looks good. the last one we did up had sweet baby ray's honey bbq, and some bold and spicy. set on low in the morning when you leave for work or a day of fish'n (for us thats about 8 hrs) when you get home you are first hit with that wonderful aroma, and then an easy prep for a great dinner/supper.:chef: :thumright hint: to be able to afford eating like a king, we go straight to the discount section in the meat aisle. in some stores we can get great meat 50% off. :-$ and bbq sauce's for .99 cents a bottle. <')//<

Crock pots are great, duck, goose, deer, grouse, heck I cant name a wild game that hasnt graced that crockpot. Even duck comes out tender.

We use our crock pot often. Usually for a beef roast, home made chili, or a beef stew. I love to simmer a roast in beef broth for about 10 hrs. The last 3 hours, we add peeled potatoes and carrots. When it’s done, the broth goes into a rue for an amazing gravy. Maybe a little half and half to the gravy for extra creaminess. Yes I believe creaminess is a word :) ; Served sliced like a traditional roast topped w/the gravy, the potatoes and carrots on the plate. We usually add mashed sweet potatoes to this meal and like to have fresh hot baked sweet rolls with it as well. Not a low cal meal but very tasty.

Those ribs look hella good.My mouth is watering too.I'll have to wait to see if I'm allowed.I start Weight Watchers on Tues eve. I couldnt fit in my new expensive waders this year and decided that I need to lose weight badly. At 300 lbs its not healthy for me.My biggest problem is that I love food and I love to cook.OY....

One of the best parts of the ole crockpot is comming home from working hard.Opening the door to my house and getting the smell of a great meal. The smell is unbelievable. If youve not experienced that, its a treat on its own.

Cant wait till I get home tonite.I put a whole chicken in the crock pot today .Filled it with Leeks,Onions,Carrots,Celery ,Turnips, and Bok-Choy.I added 2 cups white wine and water, dumped a can of cut up tomatoes and set it on for 10 hours. When I get home my house will smell great and dinner will be ready to go.This time I skinned most of the chicken in keeping with my diet.

Mmmmm, that does sound good Panfisher. Putting the joe mix over mashed potatoes reminds me of something my family makes. Its called mud, some mashed potatoes, then some hamburger meat, then put some baked beans on top.

Damn that sounds good.Unfortunately if I eat beef or lamb I only get 3 oz. of meat. With chicken I can have 7oz.So for now its chicken.I will try making your recipe with ground chicken or turkey.
