Eating World has Crumbled
I joined the Weight Watchers group near my house.I'm the only man in the group.I got tired of my new waders not fitting.I got up to 315 lbs.So I said to myself that no more will I look like this. When I quit smoking I added on 70 lbs.Another 30 lbs came from a foot injury which laid me up for almost a year.I took my 8' Livingston out to Lk Stevens and sunk it with motor on and all my equipment.Ideally I want to get to 200 lbs but I'll take it as it goes.
No more over indulging, less salt,excersize(yuk)3 meals aday.3oz of protein per meal.No more 1 1/2 lbs steaks:-({|= I'm determined to do this.By next steelhead season my waders will fit with out the use of crico...

Good for you for getting proactive and deciding that a change is in need. Best of luck to you...
Try drinking lots of water. You put on a lot of extra calories if you have a soda or beer or two with every meal, but water has none. It really shed's pounds much faster then people imagine...

Congratulation racfish on your triumphant decision. You can do it! You quit smoking which is a very hard thing to do, so I think you have amazing will power. You have a goal weight in mind so just stick through the tuff times and you'll be there be for you know it. Just keep thinking about how good it is going to feel. We are all here for you rooting you on.

RE:Eating World has Crumbled
Weight Watchers is a good program. My wife joined 27 years ago and has been maintaining her weight pretty well. For the first year or so she went to the meetings and then over time developed her own menus and has been successful. As she gets older she has put on some extra in places, but that comes with age. She is still at a healthy weight and her physicals all come out very good. It really boils down to changing eating habits. She weighs all portions and figures her "points" (something on that order) and keeps track of them.
When she went on this program, the fatty and fried foods left the kitchen. I kicked and moaned and cried and whimpered about the "dry" tasteless meals she was preparing. After a while I started to get used to the lean meats, no gravy etc. and over time my digestive system thanked me. At 57 years old, all my blood work is normal and my weight has stayed where I should be. Now if I go get a greasy "gut bomb" from one of the fast food places I feel sluggish for the next day.
Ah, Crisco. The little blue can of heart disease. That was the first thing to hit the trash can when she started. She got me down to 2% milk from whole milk but that was where I drew the line. I can't drink 1%, although she does.
There are many good support groups that will assists you as needed. Good luck with your plan!

RE:Eating World has Crumbled
I can relate! My new years resolution is to drop 136 lbs. So far I'm on target and have gone from 336 down to 316. It's only a drop in the bucket, but my clothes are fitting much better these days. I have lots of clothes that were too small, and it's great to discover that some of them fit now. It's almost like getting a whole new wardrobe!
I'm not very good at counting calories and I refuse to go hungry, so I've just been eating better food and walking every day. My neighborhood has lots of hills, so a 30 minute walk will definitely work up a sweat and get the ol' heart going.

Good for you!
You got the support,
You got the drive,
You got the goal,
and
You got the women in the group to either
A.) Admire your progress, or
B.) kick you in the a__ if you fall off track. :thumright
Sounds like you are well on your way my friend!

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

RE:Eating World has Crumbled
Lots of people saw my big meltdown recently. So much of it is frustration, stress, and ill health.I just got tired of these feelings and feel that a change was seriously overdue.Even this winter I make it a point to fish every weekend at least 1 day. This thursday will be my weigh in and class.I like it. Its a challenge. It gives me a good something to strive for.I 'm determined to be able to fish in my 8' Livingston without sinking it on Lk Stevens like last time.Hehehe.

Great Job man, I am in somewhat of a different position and I have lost the wieght but I can't seem to kick the smoking. What was your trick? As far as the weight it just takes time and commitment and it sounds like your have what it takes. I went from 247lbs to 190lbs in just under a year on a steady diet. But man I have to give it to you for kicking the habit. I really have trouble sticking with it sometimes ya know?

Try switching to a brand of cigarettes that you don't like. You'll still get the nicotine, but it will leave a bad taste in your mouth and make the overall experience less pleasurable. I used to smoke Kools, and switching to Seneca helped kill the urge to smoke.ReelFisher wrote:Great Job man, I am in somewhat of a different position and I have lost the wieght but I can't seem to kick the smoking. I smoked for 25 years. Then 1 day I developed a blood clot which broke off and went to my lung.It shut my lung down and it filled with liquid. The doc put me in the resperation ward of the hospital.Seeing these people with half their faces gone and Trachis.Watching these poor folks and listening to their noises made me quit.I just said NO MORE.I did not want to look or sound like them.It scared the bejeezus out of me.I now havent smoked in 12 years and I love it.I did put on around 70 lbs. Now Im getting the pounds off.It just takes time and patience.
Last Thursday weigh in was 303 #'s.Down 12 since I started.
