RE:Washingtonlakes.com fishing tourney?
I too have seen these tournaments. They use a FISH CALCULATOR to determine point standings. Everyone has an even playing field due to the calculator, takes into consideration what region your in and species of fish. For instance a 12" Rainbow from Washington can be worth as many points as a 20" Bass in the Southern States where Bass are the most common fish. Therefore the WL Tournament could use a similar type calculator. Everyone can fish for whatever they want. The catches are judged and given points accordingly. Anyone could win and you would not have to have different brackets other than perhaps, "Largest" of the day for fun.panfisher wrote:hey! i would go for some sort of contest but you would need to include the shore fisherpersons. they have contests that use pictures of your catch in the midwest, they ran biggest fish of the week, month and year, all species. use to enter them years ago. biggest fish won fishing, camping, gear worth so much per week and gets better for the month to the grand finale at the end of the year, just another thought. <')//<

RE:Washingtonlakes.com fishing tourney?
I think we could have a bass and a trout tourney...Not to discriminate on other fish, but they seem to be the main freshwater fish people fish for, so it would appeal to the largest amount of people....A bass one in like July...Trout in like April or May...$10 or maybe as much as $20, enough to cover the WDFW permit costs (I'm assuming there are some involved, I do know you need to let them know a few months ahead of time) and enough leftover to give a sufficient payout and even some of the cut left to go to the site...Could be a lot of fun to get to know some faces instead of just forum names..I'm a member in a few other forums and I know a lot of those guys all know each other by first names (not forum name) and they all fish a lot with each other.
Would be nice to get that sorta thing going here too...

I think the toughest part would be finding a good lake that has bank access ( a lot of it) for the bank/shore crowd and plenty of parking for the large amounts of trailers and what not...And picking a date....

Heres an idea mar don resort has a dock fishing tourney every septmber. They have a huge dock and a lot of bank acces to fish from. They have 9 species to fish for and they award cash prizes for 1st and 2nd place for each species. The allow you to fish all day and all night from 6:00pm friday until 11:00 am sunday. On sunday they have a pot luck and a raffle. The first prize for each species last year was I think $250 and it only cost like $25 to enter. We can do a tourney like this.
RE:Washingtonlakes.com fishing tourney?
I would be apart of it
RE:Washingtonlakes.com fishing tourney?

This topic sort of got thrown on the back burner here and I was thinking we don't need to have a tounament, but how about setting a date for next summer and having just a get together and meeting with everybody who chats on this web forum??????? I think it would be fun to meet up with a bunch of people off this site, see what there #1 fish they like to catch. Maybe have some good eats???? what does everyone think?????

Anyone want to be an organizer? A BBQ and evening of fishing would be fun. Not to be discouraging, but spring/summer is tough for me with my boy's baseball schedule. (not that I'm essential to making this happen)

I like your idea Basshunter, an informal get together / BBQ to get to know each other and to talk about various ideas for the tourney NEXT summer. This would give us all time to plan it out right and for those who need to travel to make arrangements and so on. It would also give those of us who haven't caught a fish this year to get some more practice in. Any hands for my team????
I'd be more than happy to throw my hat in the mix as Vice-Organizer or something like that. I've done golf tourneys before, but never a fishing tourney. Of course the easy choice would be Fishinislife, coming off his stellar performance in the last one. I'm in whatever we decide.
I think it would be cool to team up. I know a lot of us are "boat challenged". This way we don't have guys stuck on the shore while others are out on the water. Have car will travel....
Let's talk about it over some steaks and suds.

RE:Washingtonlakes.com fishing tourney?
I have been putting something together this past weeek. Some of you that have offered to help previously will be getting a PM or call from me. I am ironing out details now on how the whole thing should go down and how big it should be. I'm leaning on the side of BBQ and fishing with no big tourney (being that it's only a month away), but I will put something fun together. I will post more soon!

the mardon resort on potholes sounds the best suggestion. i was in that dock tourney last year, and, the boats got beat 2-1, and there were some lunkers caught off the dock. plenty of space for trailers, big spots for bbq. the meseberg's who own the resort would love to help put something together. it is 2 hours and 45 minutes from bellevue, pulling a boat. you also can camp, rv, or cabin it if you wanted to stay over.

RE:Washingtonlakes.com fishing tourney?
My work schedule is pretty erratic right now, sometimes I have 4-6 days off in a row, but I would be open to helping organize and run a tourney over here in NE washington.
I wont be able to make the sept 15th one though

I like the idea of having regional tournaments and the top placers are invited to a state tournament. Use the regions as broke down in the fishing regs.
But definitely don't mix or have a multispecies tournament, too hard to make fair. Who wins when one guy has 4 foot-long rainbows, another guy has 13 bullhead cats, another guy has a bucket of panfish, the basser has a seven-pounder and a pair of duces, then here comes the musky guy with a 35lb fish?
