New Years Resolution

Post by bob johansen » Sun Dec 28, 2008 10:03 am

:fish: :fish: :fish: Here is a New Years Resolution that will be easy and fun to keep. Start on Jan.1, 2009 to keep a complete fishing log -- skunks and all. Its very easy -- especially now with computers and doesn't use much hard drive space -- or you can keep it on a USB drive. Make it as simple or detailed as you wish but I know you will enjoy looking back at as the years pass. I've kept one since 1975. Mine is private so there has been no need to pad the size of the catch to impress anyone. Your log should include all fishing -- lakes, rivers, saltwater areas and etc. Happy New Year All. BJ
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.

You will be able to do that with the new site upgrade. You can keep your notes private or share them with the people you choose.

I am looking forward to the new site upgrade as well. As for me; I'm maintaining a new lifestyle. As I have mentioned in a few forum posts earlier this year, in December 2007 I decided once and for all to make a permanent life change focusing on consistently eating healthy and dedicating myself to both a strength and cardio training regimen. My starting weight in December 2007 was 403 pounds. In 12 months, I have lost 104 pounds and feel like a new man. I am 6’ 03” and now weigh 299 pounds. My new goal is to lose 49 more pounds by July which is about 2 pounds a week. Losing 2 pounds a week is for the most part attainable and I am told by my doctor is a safe rate to lose fat at. I will never be obese again and in fact I actually look normal or average now which is very rewarding. I know a few other members have also spent most of 2008 losing weight. Not to change the topic but I would love to hear how each has done. I am also happy to share with anyone (PM if interested) how I did it, i.e. what I eat and the extent of my workouts. I will also fish more often now that gas prices are not 4.50 a gallon. I can’t wait to hit the local lakes for trout, catch lots of crab, and fish hard when the pinks enter the Sound. May you all have a great 2009. God Bless.

Congrats on the success thus far Dave, and keep up the positive work.

My resolution, most pertinent to WL.com:
Meet and fish with more folks from the site....

Best of luck to everyone else in the rest of '08 and into '09....
Don't chase reports...Be the report others chase....

Right On Dave  Good Job!!!

I started 2007 at 220 pounds and managed to get down to 180 by the end of summer... a year later Im back up to 200 or so. Having a desk job doesnt help burn the calories.. #-o

New Years Resolutions for my wife and I include...

1)Work Out: weights and cardio atleast 2 times a week before work (Tues & Thurs) and again on Saturday, swim laps while the boy is in swim lessons.

2)Eat better: we do pretty good but there are alot of places fat and crap can be removed from out diet. (chips, pop, instant and semi prepared boxed foods :-& )

3)Finish cleaning up around the house..
finish the projects around the house..
and get rid of all the clutter in the shed and workshop.

4)Spend less

5)Fish More

Good work Dave.I'm still at it myself .Im down 63 lbs now.The winter (stuck in the house) dosent help .Holidays are rough also.It does feel great to lose weight and in more the one way.Now when I'm fishing I feel like I can bend over better .I can walk to my fishing holes w/o huffing and puffing. All my raingear fits .My waders all fit,and even my boat rides better. My resolution is to keep going at it. Keep taking the weight off and keep walking or moving.I got another 50 lbs to go and gonna achieve it too.
The other resolutions are the usuals.More fishing, more crabbing, more Bassin.G-d Bless you all for a Wealthy ,Healthy.and Loving New Years.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the kind words. I am pumped to hear that you (Rac & RMV) have also done well. I am sure you both feel much better. Congrats. For me, not only do I feel so much better physically and mentally, I'm no longer out of breath at the slightest hint of physical activity, and I have also noticed that looking at a 2XL shirt which I now wear, vs a 5XL shirt which I have worn for the last 18 years, is very odd. The 2XL just look so small to me. LOL.

Rac, I so agree with you as far as the little things go. Tying shoes, picking up something off the floor, doing house and yard work, getting up from the couch, getting into and out of vehicles and boats, fitting in the movie theatre seat, man the list goes on. I used to hate walking up the one flight of stairs to get to the second floor at my work. Now I run up those stairs with little effort which is a great feeling. It was embarrassing for me to walk up a set of stairs and be out of breath. People look at you like you are a slob. At least that is how I felt.

Throughout this process, and to this day, when I see someone walking or jogging down the sidewalk, I always think to myself, man that is so cool, good for that person. I guess I get it now. "It", being how important health is. Without good health, the saying "life is too short" holds true. Do we have our bad days as far as eating and exercise goes? Absolutely! The key is getting right back to it. With my eating lifestyle, one day a week, I have a cheat day where I eat one or two meals that day that are high in calories, carbs, and some fat. Not only does this allow me to enjoy something I might be craving, the primary benefit is these couple of meals each week prevent the body from experiencing a plateau (aka a period of time where a person loses no weight). A plateau can be just a few weeks, or as long as 8 months after losing just 10% of your total body weight according to my doctor. So the benefits of a cheat day are twofold. I get to enjoy something that might be very tasty but not a healthy choice to eat often, and it prevents the plateau so the weight loss doesn't cease.

Thanksgiving and Christmas came and went for me and I did enjoy the traditional dinners and deserts that come with these two days. I just went right back to healthy eating and continued with my exercise routine and I never gained a pound of fat. I have noticed at times that my weight fluctuates from 3 or 5 pounds but after a few days I am back to my actual weight. This is just the body at work. The fluctuation is not fat, it's the actual weight of the liquids and foods being taken in and processed.

Anyway, sorry to babble. I'm just motivated. Thanks again.

Way to go Dave!!!!! I'm with you! I'm down 33 and have about 15 to go. I'm hoping to be able to work out with the reduced strain on my back. At this point all the serious health concerns have been addressed with the weight reduction so I'm looking forward to having fun for a while!!!!!! Pass the salad please!

It's amazing for me that I can identify so strongly with the issues being discussed around weight. I don't think that there are others in the same boat.

It's the hard bend-over, the out-of -breath, the pants that just won't come together - at best they kind'da slide down (now I see why old guys wear pants around their chest!) . .anyway . . .it's a constant battle if you relax about it.

My resolution is to "again" lose the 40 pounds I have grown around me while having a great time eating whatever I wanted for the past few years. So, for the second time in my life I will become re-aquainted with veggies and Special K cereal and the other products I have used to provide a healthy base for reduction. No more goodies - just an image of having to carry around an extra 40 pound bag of dog food with me every day! Maybe a 40 pound fish is a better image! (first I'd have to catch one)

I figure if we're supposed to exercise for 30 minutes twice a week just to maintain I had better make it a good hour long walk each day . .which I'm prepared to do as long as it doesn't cut into my fishin.'

I wish you all the best in your commitment to losing weight and moving towards health.

Happy New Year guys!
