Making my first trip out to Pine Lake tomorrow
First time on the site, I'm heading out to Pine (first trip) and just wanted to get the scoop on the lake. How many ft. of lt. below the swivel should I use off the dock? I've seen people saying 10 ft, I'm thinking more aound 5 ft. with pink power bait (rubber eggs) to start. Any tips would be appreciated. May hit Beaver as well, unless I have luck at Pine. Also, is the dock busy in the early afternoon on a Friday? How's the parking situation?
Thanks
J
Thanks

Welcome to the site.
As for Pine on a Friday afternoon....It'll be hit or miss on parking and crowd, but you can probably bet on quite a few people since it's supposed to be a nice day. I don't fish the pier, but from what I've seen and read, it has been crowded since opener. As for your setup, experiment while you're out there. Don't forget to post a report on how you do.
Good luck.

Thanks bro, I may try to get out there before afternoon and see how that goes.
I've been doing real well out at Desire, did ok at Meridian, Steel and Wilderness were way too crowded. Just kind of in that "check out as many lakes as I can" mode right now.

hey soulfishhawk,
welcome to the site. i just joined not to long ago also. pine is pretty good. ive been there a couple times in the past month or so. usually, if its a good day, the dock is pretty busy. especially when people start getting of work, etc...your battling for the spot. most likely, if your standing on the right side of the dock, someone may cross your line once or twice, but you could try casting out into deeper waters. i usually have about 7-10 feet of lead. and use power eggs and rainbow power bait, works great. tight lines!

I run a 15 foot lead and limit in less then 40 minutes every time out.
Good Luck

RE:Making my first trip out to Pine Lake tomorrow
its gotten a bit warmer since the opening so a shorter leader might not be a bad idea.
at pine, i limited out in 2 hours roughly 3 weeks ago with this setup.
4 lb line to swivel with a 1/4 egg slip sinker above swivel. 4 lb leader and I made my leader about 5 ft and it worked great.
but again, experiment with it. some people were using up to 10-15 ft leader, others shorter...but most were catching.
the right side of the Y dock is good. cast out straight. most of the fish were in the shallower areas when i fished.

Excellent, thanks for the tip. I'll probably start with 5ft. and see how it goes. I appreciate all the info guys.
RE:Making my first trip out to Pine Lake tomorrow
oh, try out chartreuse or rainbow powerbait. i fished there with a orange color and wasnt getting bites until i switched over my chartreuse. i was with howardi211 and he was using rainbow and we both maxed out.
no bites with lures and way too crowded to be casting out with lures.

Cool, rainbow it is, I have a brand new jar of it. Hopefully I won't run into "grumpy old guy" on the dock:-({|=
Gotta' love 'em

yeah watch out for those lines. its literally shoulder to shoulder with lines casted out every 2-3 ft next to you. cross some lines and you'll get the grumpy guys that yell at you haha. most people are pretty understanding about it as long as you dont do it repeatly.
you'll also get random people shamelessly crossing your line by casting in all directions...

Ive been at pine a few times and posted reports. Check it out. The leaders depends on how finicky the fish are. Just look around for clues on how long the leader should be. Btw, is the bite really that much better on the right side?

very true, depends on the weather and how picky the fish are that day! great advice to check out all the posts, alot of information on there!returnofthefish wrote:Ive been at pine a few times and posted reports. I cant really say which side is better, but from experience, i like the right side more. first time i went to pine, fished on the left side, only caught one after a few hours. ever since than, when i do fish at pine, i fish on the right side of the dock (either on the dock or on the shore casting toward the right side of the dock) and i get consistent bites. trout fishing is geting a little boring though, especially on the dock with just powerbait. need something with a bit more fight to it. the planters dont seem to fight until the last 5 feet (if they do fight), and its just for 2 seconds before they give up.
RE:Making my first trip out to Pine Lake tomorrow
Don't go without some Lunker Lotion too or some kind of scented formula. Power eggs and Powerbait just don't work as well by themselves anymore. Rub some LL on your eggs and you will limit even faster. I use the Sardine flavored one.
When you reel back your line after an unsuccessful soak, do it slowly. Twice I've caught fish following my bait as I reeled it back in.

RE:Making my first trip out to Pine Lake tomorrow
Thanks for all the tips guys, I ended up skipping out on Pine because of friday afternoon traffic drama etc. I ended up hanging out at Desire for awhile, and hit meridian. I'm definetely looking forward to hitting pine next week, time for a new lake or three. I'm hitting Long lake or Black lake this weekend, supposedly Long is pretty good. As far as Lunker Lotion, I got some of the Garlic kind in the pink jar, seems to work pretty well, nice and thick too.

RE:Making my first trip out to Pine Lake tomorrow
Yeah, I almost always limit out or get 4 at Desire, it's starting to become way too crowded on the dock, and the bite times seems to be dropping a little. Mainly, IMO, because every boat that goes out limits in 15 minutes or so and comes back in with a stringer of trout. Eventually it'll be fished out, but it's a great lake.
So, Friday morning, at the buttcrack of dawn, I'm finally gonna' get out to Pine. From what I was told while fishing at desire on Monday, Pine and Wilderness both pretty much sucked for fishing over the weekend, go figure.
Anyway, I'm gonna' attempt to be on that dock by 6am or so, maybe hit the right side with a 10 ft. litre and some pink and/or green power bait w/the Garlic Scent Lunker Lotion to start and see how I do. If anyone else is coming out to Pine Friday, stop by and say hi. So it's a couple weeks late, but finally I'll get my a** out there.
thanks again for all the tips. I might check out Beaver if the fishing isn't working at Pine. Huh huh, I said check out beaver.

Pine if pretty much fished out. That was the consensus from the people on the dock. I was there and posted a report for tuesday. 5 hours for 2 fish. I was gonna start going to lake desire again. The dock there is small. Probably holds 4 anglers confortably.

RE:Making my first trip out to Pine Lake tomorrow
Shoot me a PM if you go out to desire bro', I go there all the time. We get 12 or 13 people at a time on that small dock, it's interesting, but for the most part it's ok. Except when some russian guy rolls up and just takes a spot without even asking someone, that crap gets annoying. I used to go there around 6 or 6:15 am and would be by myself for an hour, and even after that it was just a few people. Last weekend, there were 7 people on the dock by 7am.
How are things going over at Beaver? I haven't been there either but I think it's real close to Pine.
