how to make a yarn egg or glo bug
how to make a yarn egg or glo bug
i learned this last year.they are quite useful with finicky salmon or steelhead. you can make any color you want with the yarn you got
materils: hook, yarn. leader, scissiors.
step 1 feed the line through the hook eye. then pass the line back throught the eyr making a loop do not cut this.
step 2 make the egg loop for info on how http://www.steelheaduniversity.com/loop.html
step 3. cinch down egg loop but still leaving a loop that you made in step 1
step 4 put 3 to 8 1 inch strands depending on the yarn you got if its is fat yarn, glo bug yarn i would go with 3 to 4 strands if it is thin yarn i go 6 to 8 strands into the loop.
step 5. cinch loop by pulling on the tag of the loop. should look like a super sized yarnie.
step 6 pull yarn back and round the yarn in to a ball and cut tag end of line
pics should be in order and if they are blurry sorry

Good info, thanks for the tips. Are you putting any bait/sent on this?
RE:how to make a yarn egg or glo bug
you can use both

That's one cool looking bait, almost makes me want to take up salmon and stealhead fishing. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Look forward to reading some of your reports.

RE:how to make a yarn egg or glo bug
Quick question on a egg loop...
I THINK i've successfully tied one after a few attempts but I have a question on how its supposed to work. I added some yarn into the loop, but is the loop supposed to be loose? For example, the loop is only tightened shut if I keep pulling on the main line. I would think on the drift, the loop would loosen up with a tiny bit of slack.
Am I doing something wrong? Everything looks the same from the diagram from Salmon University so maybe I'm missing one last step to keeping the yarn nice and tight on there.

Chances are you tied it right...the egg loop will always be loose until there's tension on the leader. I have never had an issue loosing anything because of it, doesn't mean it can't or won't happen. Typically, I think drag between the water, leader, weight and main line keep it from coming loose. I like using the egg loop because if I am not any luck with a particular color of yarn or need to replenish eggs, I can do so rather easily without having to tie new leaders.
As a side note...if you ever plan on using eggs, I would suggest placing the eggs in a spawn sack...or a small piece of nylon hose (as in panty hose) to keep the egg loop from cutting your egg cluster in half and loosing it.

Ah, thanks so much. Thats a bit reassuring. I wasn't sure if I did it wrong or something. This is the first time I'll be doing any drift fishing as I've just been jigging the whole time and while I've had some success, seems like Puyallup is on fire with the drift fishing. Thanks again.leahcim_dahc wrote:Chances are you tied it right...the egg loop will always be loose until there's tension on the leader. RE:how to make a yarn egg or glo bug
A couple corkies, a bit of yarn and a two to three foot leader seems to be the ticket. I haven't been out but 3x so far, so I haven't had the chance to toss around any jigs yet...but we'll get there. Good luck and be safe!

Seems like a really good idea for fast water too.

c,
Do you use corkies with these or fish them by themselves?
