Duwamish river netting

Post by Lou » Mon Sep 07, 2009 9:17 pm

I heard today from a disgruntled fisherman that the river would be netted non-stop from Sept 13 onward. I can't find a source online to read about the fishing schedule for the duwamish river. Does anyone have any information regarding this event?

I think this is highly doubtful. They are on a netting schedule just like the other tribes. There has to be 3 days a week they don't net.

Indeed, that is what I was thinking, but I could not find anything online with a definite answer. Does anyone know of a web URL to see the netting schedules of the local tribes?

Keep in mind that though there are agreements in place, they are not always honored. The tribes do investigate abuse by their members, however the Muckleshoots are probabaly the most lax at policing their own. I keep the Muckleshoot Netting Hotline number programmed on my phone just to check from time to time. It is designed to update tribal members wanting to fish the local waters of the agreements in place, kind of like the WDFW and the emergency rules website. If you call the number right now you'll note that the message is dated for the 20th of August, see my comments above. The number is: 1-800-347-4669

Thank you for the information. I skimmed through the 08-09 fishing agreement and found this:

Coho Wk 37 – Wk 44
Closed until Chinook clear or coho predominate.
Clearance fishery on lower river (up to 16th
Avenue Bridge) begins 9/11; (6 sites); Fishing
Pattern: If Chinook clearance is met or coho
predominate, fishery will open Sept 14 and be
open continuous through Oct. 3; starting Sept. 21,
fishery will open up to Hwy 99 Bridge. Starting
Oct 5, fishery will open up to Hwy 167 Bridge and
will revert back to 5 days/wk.

This is just the section for Coho, pg 24. So perhaps the angry fisherman was partially correct.
