Steelhead in Kapowsin?

Post by vympel » Fri Nov 06, 2009 5:55 pm

Caught a huge trout in Kapowsin on Sunday but when I got it to shore for a picture I noticed it had eggs in it. The sides were rather red as well which with it spawning in the fall led me to think it was a steelhead. I've never seen a steelhead before and I only found one reference online about steelhead moving through Kapowsin to get up into Ohop Creek. Fish was 26" long. Posted on the lake report section about it but my pictures didn't go through. Is this a steelhead?

Yep, Coho, no ifs and or buts. On top of all the things mentioned, Salmon have different shaped fins than Trout.

I know someone who lives on a creek between Kapowsin and Ohop Lakes. In one of the floods that happened during a salmon run she had salmon in her orchard. So if they get in her creek they have to get into the lakes somehow.

Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Caught it on a hook with my last tiny bit of worm. It was the most random and unexpected thing. Put it on my buddies smoker that night.

Ok cool thought is was a steelhead but oh well.

The source that mentioned steelhead in Kapowsin Lake also mentions coho.

Here's the link with some nice maps.

I belive a lost fish the lake goes into a creek that goes to the Puyallup. All hatcherys are below the creek.
