He landed 1, but lost another that was in the 20lb class. It was kinda funny because when his pig came off, I swear me and Bigsmooth both whispered, "YES!" in silence.salmonslayer117 wrote:Sounds like fun! I'll chase anything that's bitin'! 6# test huh? It was rough, but hey I think I learned something from Monday, it's a SECRET!jens wrote:He landed 1, but lost another that was in the 20lb class. I fished for 3 hours yesterday at Barrier. Windy, raining, snaggy.. No fish seen caught, several jumping around though. I gave up and went downriver and fished for Steelies with fellow member DoubleRR and caught a 14lb 35inch buck. Thanks againg DoubleRR with the supberb net job! Good end to a frustrating day.

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Thats funny. On the March 1st opener our group of friends got split up while fishing Burke. We said "sure dont want to root against those guys but hopefully the didnt catch sh1t". After confessing to the other group about what we had said they said "dont feel to bad, we were saying the same thing". lol. Who said fishing wasnt a competitive sport?jens wrote:He landed 1, but lost another that was in the 20lb class. I'm hoping soon that my dad and one of the guys he used to work with can get the same day off so we can head down to the mouth of the Lewis River on his jet boat on the Columbia and catch some springers. I've only went down there once with them a few years ago and lost the fish I had, guess I had a fish on but didn't know it, thought I was snagged on the bottom because the rod had went straight down with no head shaking or sign of a strike like fish usually do but then saw when my dad caught his Chinook that it did the same thing. Gahhh I was pissed, I need to catch a big king down there. Seems like from some reports that they're coming in more the last week or so.

Nice fish Jens. I'm jealous, I have been slammed at work and haven't been able to get out. Glad to see you are still nailing them. Did you catch that at Blue Creek?

RE:So who's ready for some SPRINGERS!!!
Hey fella's Ive been watching the forum because I have been planning my trip. I just got back fishing near Cathlamet on the Columbia the last three days. Fishing has improved but still slow. We got 1 fish a day on a boat with three guys. Talking to a lot of guys at the launch this seems about average. There were a few boats that said they were more successful. There were also a lot of stories of sea lions taking a few hooked kings and fish caught with one extra fin. Biggest topped at 18lbs. Kwikfish k14 or flatfish (same size) with sardine wrapped took 2 fish and trolling herring got the other. Siver and chartuese are the colors of choice. You have to put full days in to get one. I am writing this post because I've found there is little information and very few current reports out there. If you are new or not too familar with this fishery like I was I will be happy to provide some info that I've learned. I learned a lot. No expert of course but enough to know im fishing it right and trust me when you seat in a boat for 11 hours with no fish biting you have to feel confident your gear is set right.
Another side note: make sure you have your license. The Fish and game checked us as soon as we landed the last fish of the trip. Kind of ruined our fun because they came as soon as we netted it. The fish wasn't even out of the net. All was good though we all had our tags.

If you fish after March 30 2010 youd better have your $8.00 endorsement for fishing tribs off the Columbia.I always found it better to go get an Oregon licence and fish that side.
When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

RE:So who's ready for some SPRINGERS!!!
Ok, true story. I fished with some of the normal posse 4/24/10 Saturday on the Cowlitz. Great day with the fellas. Fishinrob and I had the hot rod all morning. He already had his limit by the time I got my first. The second fish has been haunting me. :bounce: :bounce:
I was in a nice little battle with what I thought was a superchrome Steelie. It fought like a double digit fish and even took me about 20 yards downriver. I finally beached it, told myself it was on the smaller side of being under 8 lbs so I made the decision to let it go and only wanted to keep any fish over 10lbs. I took a quick picture of it because it was so bright. When I released it, what kept playing in the back of my mind was the mouth was all black. What the? I got back in line and told everyone what just happened. "Hey do Steelhead have black mouths?" I asked.
If someone can please show me proof that a Steelhead has blackmouths, then I won't feel like an idiot for releasing my first ever SPRINGER!!!!
I feel good for catching one, but sure would have liked to have taken it home with me. I have yet to eat one...:chef:
