Just like JENS, my day on the samish was EASILY the best all year. It sprinkled last night, and i didnt think it was enough. WOW was it enough. LOL the fish were running up SO hard. I could hear splashing over shallows ALL day, i just watched and enjoyed as hundreds moved up between holes in the upper river. ALL CHROME AS HELL. sea lice all over their backs and fins. WOWOWOWOW a large % of the fish in the bay moved up and ran ALL the way. it was like a youtube video of alaska. Anyways, once i finally found a holding hole where i could find some fire cure hungry nooks, i took some casts. first 7 cast, had 7 take downs and landed 4 jacks and a 15 pound darkie. It slowed a bit as the fish got spooked, but ended the day going 33-for-WHO KNOWS how many bites and lost fish i had. LAnded 33 chinook today, 25 at least were sea lice chrome, i would say 15 weere jacks. biggest buck was about 35 and dark. walked out with a 34, yea 34 pound CHROME hen and a 28 pound CHROME buck. Im at work now, but ill post the pics of my fish and my buddies (18 and 14 pound chrome hens) when i get home tonight. Amazing salmon fishing. there were so many fish that they were chasing my eggs in, biting them the second the landed in the hole. it was like trout fishing in a hatchery. If i could just keep the jacks off the eggs, i would have likley landed even more HAWGGGS.

BTW i am releasing fish at the samish because i am tieing my eggs 3 inches above the hook, so when they eat it, i hook them on the outside of the mouth, thus having to be released, makes for a longer day and more fun, then when u wanna keep some and leave, tie it normal and u got a keeper! pretty sure theres nothing in the rules against this! lol

jens wrote:I had probably one of my best days on the river last weekend. I went 6 for 10 using bobber and eggs and with eggs that I cured up a few days before fishing. I released 2 bruiser Nooks pushing the upper teen range and a couple buffed up jacks. I did bonk a bright Chrome hen about 12 pounds, the meat on that fish was incredible.

True story. I was cutting up some eggs when these 4 guys walked up to where I was fishing. The look of these guys screamed flossers. I rolled my eyes and was shaking my head when each one of them bombarded the hole with 1oz cannonballs and long leaders.

I caught one of the guys looking over to what I was doing and them whispered something in the line of, "He aint catching anything, why use bait?"

I shook my head and smirked after hearing them say, "Dude, I just rolled one. Oh bro, me too I just missed a bite."

Anyways, I just sat back admiring what they were doing while trying to ignore the sound of whipping mono. I had to cough out loud a couple times to let them know I was waiting to cast.

I cast my offering in the hole watching my bobber drift about 10 feet when it disappears. It went down right where I knew there would be a fish and right where these guys couldn't cast to. After fighting this beast and taking a quick pic I released the fish unharmed.

No words were spoken when I left but retrieving my chrome hen from the water was extremely satisfying when I heard one of them say, "Man, we should have used eggs."

Bahaha great story jensen, I can picture the look on your face when they walk up with ten foot leaders.... Priceless, sounds like a good day.. Lets fish soon ain't no nookie like chi-nookie

I convinced my dad to come out and fish the samish this morning, good decision on his part. walked down to the river. first hole is taken. shoot. walk down to next hole, first cast my dad lands a nice nook. we ended up hooking 14 fish. all on eggs. when we didn't want to keep, just scooted the eggs up the hook like ff does. ended the day with 2 fish about 14, one about 21, and one smaller about 6 or 8. released a couple pushing 20, and some jacks. 3 of the fish were bronze and one was nice and chrome. kinda hard to tell in pics.

Yeah I dont think Matt is jealous, hes easily one of the best fisherman on the site.
Im pretty sure he gets his share of all the fish out there.

Haha fishbait, not sure what makes u think that. he just makes himself look good by pointing out fault in others who catch fish, like citing the rule book and waiting for someone to say something bad or wrong so he can make himself sound smarter. Youve prob caught more salmon than him this year.

I really have to take a break from the samish, my arms are sore and the freezer is FULL. Nothing but chrome today.

First cast at 615am in dim light this morning i took my first bobber egg cast under my favorite logjam. Literally the second it land, my bobber goes under SO HARD straight into the logs. Set the hook, somehow out of the snags jumps a 20 pound chromer literally jumped 10 feet in the air, went through branches!!! anyways good day, pics are here. Fire cure on eggs is killing.
