you can fish as late as you want unless the launch you are using has gate hours and gets locked.

There was a thread on night fishing for trout on here about 6 months ago. I fished BC and Leniece at night for trout. Yes...trout bite at night and are shallow.

Bass fishing can be KILLER at some lakes at night...Again, it's all about if the launch/park is open...Don't wanna get stuck in there overnight. Beaver Lake in the summer months in late evening through the night (on nights with a lot of the moon out) is a sweet fishery. Topwater baits such as black buzzbaits take em, and upsize that buzzbait and you'll latch onto a bunch of big bass....I'd assume this tactic would work at a lot of lakes at night...

Sounds like I am going to do some mid-night trout fishing...I'm surprised to hear that trout hit at 11pm - 3am time frame...that would be something else...fishing at night for bass/trout on our area lakes!!

My experience with night fishing has not been worth a ****.

I went to a stocked lake the night before opener and me and my bud camped on the remote side of the lake. we stayed up untill midnight when fishing legally opened. I fished for about a half hour caugh 1 fish and hit the hay, my freind stayed up all knight fishing and when I woke up in the morning (hour before dark) he had 3 fish on his stringer! as soon as the sun came up we started hooking trout right and left. turned out to be a great trip this year I'm going to do it again not as much for the fishing part don't get me wrong I like catching 10in finless and feeded mutant trout but Its kind of the fishing event of the year. seriously half my town shows up.

If I may point out, that is fishing for stocker trout. Those fish have spent their entire life to that point getting fed. Not going after natural sources of food like bugs, fish, snails, etc. When the sun comes out and the people return to the hatchery for work, they feed the trout. Hatchery trout in the middle of the night just sit in cement ponds and wait through the night. Then they get dumped into the lake and they have to find their own food source. Right after they dump them in the lake they are completely confused as to whats going on. They stay in the top 5 feet of water and have no idea that eagles are picking them off one by one. It takes time for these fish to realize that they are prey by us, eagles, bigger fish, etc., and that they don't get "fed" anymore, they have to find their own food.

I'd encourage you to go try night fishing several months after a stocking when the fish have "wised up" a bit and see if you can't find some more predator oriented trout instead of pet oriented trout....

That's a really good point. (I will try night fishing this year - late evening fishing at a local lake - I've never done it, and think it would be fun - I've trolled buggers at Pine in evening and nailed em, but that was only around 8pm).

We get so caught up in the stockers and what not, but even the lakes that get the little stockers are good for holdovers (if you know the right areas to fish), right when they (the WDFW) stocks the lake(s). One can pull up at Pine Lake and take 5 little 9 inch stockers, and one can work a little harder and pull out 5 14" old-over fish...just working it smarter, and slower. The wise fish are fun to catch, especially the 14-15" bows in area lakes on the opener...you could walk away with your limit of 8"ers or your limit of 13-16"ers...just depends on angling skill and patience.

Not using powerbait and trolling deeper then the stockers are holding is the easiest way to catch holdovers...

Trout fishing at night is the only way to do it at some lakes. Especially durring the summer months in the central and eastern part of the state. I have caught some of the biggest trout of my life durring the night time. But some lakes are just a waste of time to fish durring the night. But come july - september night trout fishing is awsome, along with crappie and perch, you also have a really good chance of hooking up with a walleye or a cat.

Yeah I have also caught quite a few bass at night. But I dont really fish for bass, so I cant comment on that too much. Last year at the mar don dock tourney I netted a 6.5 lb bass that won the tourney and it was at night. The same guy caught the biggest smallie of the tourney at night as well.

Ok so everyone wants to night fish. Well I am a serious night fisherman. I fish for trout and bass. My favorite was trout on some of the bigger Montana rivers throwing mice patterns. Here is a little tip, Solunar calendars. Pay attention to the times. You're gonna have to figure the rest out. Have fun and bring coffee!!

I keep looking at that lagoon to the left of the launch at Pine Lake and that is a great place for browns. I'm going to focus most my effort on the bottom with worms this summer out at Pine and hopefully this will grab a brown or two. I talked to WDFW officer last week (seems like I talk to them every week - they are very nice) and found out that WDFW has disability parking spots down by the hand launch at Pine Lake - is this the case?

Yes there are handicapped parking spaces right near the launch....

The outside of that lagoon should hold a lot of browns. I've hooked one trolling right outside it but lost the fish shortly afterwards...Got a glimpse of it and it was definitely a brown...

Thanks Sam for confirming this for me (the disabled parking down by the launch).

I, too, feel that the entrance to that lagoon will hold some nice big browns. Put a worm on a flatfish or hot-shot and troll nice and slow off the bottom -- should pick up a couple.

Better yet troll a Rapala right off the weed lines...Perch or bass or rainbow trout should take them..Keep them right off the bottom, troll the edge of the weedlines and the edge of that lagoon and you will find something...

Interesting though, the first brown I caught there was on a sunny, dead calm day. October 31st. Last day of the year. Caught on a red size 1 dick nite. They talk about going big for browns, but this thing hit a tiny dick nite. Weird...Oh well, I'm glad it did...

Sam what kind of Rapala would you troll? I go to Joe's and shop online at Cabelas and I do not even own one single Rapala lure. Can you send me a link either through this forum or a PM that shows a good Rapala (color, size, etc.) to purchase. I want to buy some Rapalas but should I get a jointed Rapala or a diving Rapala...like I said I've never fished a Rapala, but seriously want to out at Pine this Summer.

Is there a link to this lure so I can see it? A website that sells it...etc. I'm headed to Joe's tonight.
